Telstra cancelling data share sim

Hey all

I just received a text from Telstra saying that they are cancelling my $0 data share sim card that I've had for a few years as part of my business mobile plan. I use it in my ipad. They said that I have to purchase a separate plan, which is a minimum of $10 per month ($19 per month plan with a bonus $9 off for people in my situation). Apparently thy are phasing them all out.

Are they allowed to do this? It doesn't feel right…

Of course they can cancel old plans, once they are out of contract.

yes they are allowed to do this.

  • Telstra can do anything they want to with their plans.

They don't often grandfather old ones indefinitely.

What did they say when you contacted them? Sometimes they'll offer a good substitute plan if asked nicely.

Ask to talk to someone in Customer Retention.

  • Yes, it will all be covered in their terms and conditions.

I also lost a data share sim in a tablet I received with my Note 8 a while back. When upgrading my phone/plan they told me the data share would be removed too.

You could simply tether your iPad to your business phone if needed?

  • Did you recently change plans? Data share SIMs are automatically removed as soon as the number of compatible plans on the account reaches 0.

  • We have had one for years, also they have cancelled Telstra movie tickets for business customers. Have to sing put to Telstra plus but business customers can't.
At least we still get data share with all devices on same account.

  • Whirlpool covered this here https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/98mzmxm3

Telstra will cave and let you keep your $0 sim until your primary phones contract is up. TIO is getting involved in a lot of cases too on this.

I’ve got a Go Mobile $5 companion plan which is even better with unlimited sms/calls and data share from the other number on my account. I can see Telstra pulling that on me soon too.
