  • Be aware it's only for after May 22, so don't all go rushing out at once.

  • is it 2.5 or 3.5 size?

    • If I was a betting man I'd put my money on it being a 2.5" hard drive. dansor did say so in the title of this deal.

      Alan

    • It's 3.5" HDD, I got one today assuming 2.5" and but then returned it back :)

  • I highly doubt it's a 2.5" because after sale it's $129. Even at $129, it's a steal for that price.
ps, it looks like a 3.5" to me

  • The picture is exactly the same as the OneTouch 4 Mini:

    http://www.maxtorsolutions.com/en/catalog/OT4_Mini/

The US RRP is US$129.99 for the 250GB so the after sale price of AUD$129 isn't too far off the mark considering the increasing parity of the US$ and AUD$.

  • elcheapo reckons it is the 3.5" pricing not 2.5".

I highly doubt it from the price point of view

    They have 80gb for $89 and 250gb for $99

and both has the same after sale price of $129

It just can't be right. How on earth people buy $129 for 80gb 2.5" while right beside it they also have 250gb 2.5" for $129 ?

and don't always trust what catalog offers you. It's not the first time they made such mistake ;)

    I've look all Australia's shop's pricing and indeed the 250gb 3.5" (STM302503OTM301-RK) is around $100-$140 price mark..

while the 250 2.5" (STM902503OTM301-RK) aka One Touch MINI is at $181 at the cheapest from Static Ice.

So, it is definitely the 3.5"

    • I don't know if it's relevant but Dick Smith has the same 80GB HD at $79 (not discounted either). So the $129 post-sale price for the 80GB may be wrong.

However, Dick Smith also has what looks like the OneTouch 4 Mini 160GB at $120 so that makes the $129 post-sale price for the 250GB look a bit wrong too.

The OneTouch 4 (3.5 inch) 250GB is on sale at Dick Smith at exactly $129…

  • hey elcheapo, doesn't really matter if they are wrong. there is the trade practices act, they have to honour the advertisement else they will be seriously liable for misleading advertisement. 2.5" or not come 22nd may we are really in for an awesome deal.

    • Unless it is a mistake, in which they can have a retraction in the store apologising for it. Misleading advertising is if the mistake was proven to be deliberate.

My advise, get in early so that is if it a mistake, they havent discovered it yet so you can talk your way through it.

      • Yes that's correct. There's usually fine print on the catalog saying that the seller has a right to not honour mistakes in publication. That said, some do honour their mistakes - I recently bought a 1TB Western Digital drive from Officeworks which was mistakenly priced at $199. A few hours later they changed it back to $297, but I managed to get away with it. :D

    • Don't get me wrong.. I am not going to miss this as well, I am just bit skeptical that this is the 2.5" model.

K-Mart, as well as us as the customer has the benefit of the doubt that the product are in fact 2.5" model. The only slight advantage that we have is the piece of illustration showing a 2.5" model. (again, k-mart probably says in their defence that picture is always for illustration purpose only).

So provided that K-mart is not hiding their 250gb 2.5" in preparation of the sale period, I say, let's go to k-mart and demand the 2.5" model :)

  • i wouldnt say it's a miss print i bought a 2.5" external hdd for 99$ a few weeks ago, although it sure wasnt from k-mart and it was a promo item.

  • Easy- find out what K-Mart sells right now. If they only have the 3.5" in stock, then tomorrow its 3.5".
    Simple.

  • Why would you bother. Maxtor are crap even if they are owned by Seagate. Always pay the extra for quality.

    • I prefer quantity over quality. And this applied to all aspects of my life :)

  • Just go early morning tomorrow. Grab the 250Gb 2.5" and make your way to the register. If the price doesn't match with the catalogue, show the catalogue and 'argue' with them, as simple as that =)

  • Well, if it is a 3.5" one, then it doesn't worth it.
You can buy a maxtor 500G 3.5" for $89 and buy a external case for $19-29 from msy.
totally cost will be around $108-118.

2.5" laptop HDD are made by seagate, and the major difference is Maxtor hdd has less cache than seagate ones'
the early Maxtor mini III are using 2.5" seagate hdd as internal drive. And Maxtor Mini IV as well now. So if it is 2.5" model,no doubt about the quality at all and it must be a bargian. otherwise, it is just not a good deal at all.

  • Another news:
just checked msy. the 2.5" seagate SATA HDD is selling for $119.
So $99 for maxtor 250G could be real.

  • This was a no go for me. They already had a printed retraction in place saying the picture was incorrect. Tried to sell me the full size disk instead.

  • BOTH items are incorrectly pictured.

For $89 you get the 120gb Maxtor OneTouch™ 4 Mini 2.5" silver drive and for $99 you get the 3.5" 250gb Maxtor OneTouch™ 4 BLACK drive.

  • +1 for the 120gb Maxtor One Touch Mini for $89. Sells for $20 more in Computer stores and $30 at Office Works. MSY sell the 80GB for $10 more!

  • KMart is like an ashtray on a motorbike.
Can't even make a reliable catalogue, no QA? what a shame!

  • Doh! I went in today to find the drive and noticed it was in a rather large box (3.5" for sure)
Should have checked here first, would have saved me a lot of time

  • told you so :p

    • Aha a cheapo comment!! LOL :-) Guess we should listen to you more!! keep em honest.

  • I got it :)

I went in and they gave me the go away we don't have 'em bit, so I complained that the replacement they were offering is not portable and the manager got me one in, pic below to prove it

    http://muppet-modding.com/showthread.php?tid=2393&pid=19401#…

    • Bah, when I went in they had no stock so I couldnt argue out of it. Although saying an external 3.5" hard disk isnt portable is an interesting argument :D

  • They never had any in stock where I went either, it took them a week to get it in

  • yes mate, i got it for $99, thanks for the info, its a great site
