Nice find! Haven't noticed many deals from City Software for a while

I'm using the NP204 and they're working like a charm. Paid $80 for my pair and that was through Foxtel, otherwise cheapest I could find was well over $100 + shipping.

Shame the NP203 doesn't have A/C pass through, otherwise I'd totally upgrade!

    • for people wondering what type of performance you get through the powerlines, dont expect 'normal' cat5 direct cable speeds. these devices work by converting the signal into a 'wireless type' frequency, and then pump it down the lines to be converted back again. its equiv to Wireless G speeds…. fine for surfing and the like, but not for network gaming and HD movie streaming.

but for simple home networking without wires (and better security so people cant snoop your otherwise wireless network), its a good alternative. just remember that it greatly depends on directly wired powerpoints. for instance from powerpoint to powerpoint in adjoining rooms (where its most likely that the powerpoints are wired together on the same line) will work better than a powerpoint connection trying to transmit back through the meter box and back to anther circuit of the house (like in the kitchen, which typically has its own circuit).

      • I've got my NP204 hooked up to the X360 and streaming HD Foxtel without a hitch. From memory, HD Foxtel streamed about 800mb/hr. If so, I'm getting ~222kb/s which IMO is pretty sweet, granted, the two rooms are pretty close together so that prolly helps.

As for different circuits, pretty sure these things don't work across circuits… which has a benefit of protecting your network from neighbouring apartments.

  • Even with shipping ($10-$14 depending on location), this still works out better than MSY. Good find :)

  • tagging this one thx.

  • Does anyone know what speed the 4 port switch works at port to port? You know, without going thru the powerline.

      10/100Mbps

      • Hmm. Interesting. Something doesn't add up here, and I'm picking its the 200Mbps marketing BS.

  • I bought one of these (from Harris Computers) a while ago. Works well.

  • It seems you can only buy them in kits, is there any add-ons i can get? For example to I want it to go to 2 other rooms

  • I got a belkin powerline HD from COD for 80 a while ago. They are great if your wireless range doesn't reach your computer. Fast but you get issues there and there but all u have to do is plug it out and in again! def recommended.

This from Whirlpool might be helpful stumo.

    • And from that Foxtel subscribers apparently have access to the NP204 @$80.
      The NP204 features a built-in AC pass-through.

    • good read, thanks for linking mate.
