If you have FTTP or HFC you can use this without a modem.

If you have FTTC, FTTN or FTTB you will need a VDSL2 modem, ideally in bridge mode to avoid having double NAT.

    • Thanks

    • Whoops, FTTC can also use this without a modem.

    • If you have FTTP or HFC you can use this without a modem.

      How?

      • With FttP, FttC and HFC NBN supply the network termination device/ connection box that outputs ethernet. So you only need a router.

FttN you need to bring your own vdsl2 modem (/router combo) to communicate with the node.

    • So is that a no for future firmware updates?

seems like some other guys bought it but not looking good for any support.

      • NetComm’s Industrial IoT segment (gateways, routers, modems) was acquired separately by Lantronix (in Jan 2025), enhancing their 4G/5G offerings and expanding reach into Australia/New Zealand.

        Their history:

        Year Event
        1982 Founded in Sydney, Australia
        1993 Listed on ASX (ASX:NTC)
2019 Acquired by Casa Systems for AUD 161M
Mar 2024 Entered voluntary administration due to financial distress
May 2024 Rescued by DZS for US\$7M with earn-out potential
Jan 2025 IoT portfolio sold to Lantronix
May 2025 Acquired by Zhone Technologies; retains brand and operations in Australia

I would avoid as it appears to be trending to an exit

No updates so far. The only firmware listed on NetComm website is the initial firmware from ~2 years ago.

    • its a very old new and it was taken over by another company and the supply chain is very stable

  • So strange I cant find any reviews on the device.

    • Its is because they are recently launched product in AU.

Ahh great. Maybe I'll be able to take full advantage in 2035 (excluding 2Gb).

Anyone got details on the internal chipsets? If OpenWRT could be ported to this device, it might be a good option

    • +1

Agree, keen for this but can't find anything on it.

I requested the GPL code from the manufacturer to hopefully get some more info. We'll have to see what they come back with

    • Anything with SLIC (Subscriber Line Interface Circuits) is likely Broadcom, no OpenWrt.

      • This modem doesn't claim to support DSL though? The ports are VoIP only. There are several OpenWRT supported devices with VoIP ports, just VoIP doesn't work.

With that said, I received mine during the week and the running processes show several containing 'BCM'. So it almost certainly is broadcom.

        • How strong is the Wifi ?

          • @supatight: I only got around to plugging it into my network today. Speed wise, it's a bit strange. My old results are a Netgear RAX70.
            Old 5GHz: 380mbps down, 330mbps up
            New 5GHz: 300 down, 900 up
            New 6GHz: 430 down, 800 up

So uploads are a lot better, down is pretty similar. Haven't tested range yet, nor have I messed too much with picking a good channel. Tested on a 12th gen Intel NUC.

  • Expensive paperweight? No security and features updates.
