If you're anal about power then you could look at the slower 5500/5700 or go Intel. They should use 10-20W less power at light workloads.

The 13600K is a better comparison with the 12700K. It costs ~100 more but it's slightly faster in both multithreaded and gaming use.

Looks like the 5600 is just abnormally cheap in Aus. Most US stores are selling it for $150US which is about $253AU in GST.
