I got these in the last deal but haven't even used them yet. Pretty sure I shouldn't buy another set

  • Do they have offset? Would be great deal if they do

Off-topic question - How do you get notified of these pricedrops? Do you use brute force f5/daily check etc or do you use camelcamelcamel or similar

    • camelcamel…

  • Here is another option if you want a bit of imperial https://www.amazon.com.au/GearWrench-9418-Metric-Combination…

I picked these up on the last deal. The selling point for me was the higher spanner sizes (in particular 22 and 24mm).

However a couple of points to consider.
    a) They are dead flat, no offset. Not a deal breaker but a consideration for those looking to save their knuckles in a tight space.
    b) The ratchet feels a little loose than what I would like. I've got a set of Stanley's that give a loud strong locking click at the finest of movements. With these Gearwrench's the click is much quieter, and you need to move a few more degrees between each click. Also, when you try to wobble the ratchet mech between your fingers (firmness), they do move a tad. The Stanley's are much more rigid and sit in place.

I don't regret buying them, but regardless of the spanner size you use the ratchet mech could be a little better. Again, not a deal breaker… but definitely a noticeable difference.

But for under $100 delivered (considering they sell for a lot more locally!) its still a very good deal.

    • I agree with the comments on the ratchet mechanism. I have repco, toolpro, titan, and even aldis workzone junk and the gearwrench mechanism felt less 'solid' than all of the others
They probably are as good in operation and longevity though. Gearwrench generally have a good reputation

      • Agreed!

Yeah that's why I ended up buying them… the reputation of Gearwrench as a decent product. So far so good though.

      • I've had a set of Gearwrench ratcheting spanners for a while now. Use then whenever I can. They are so much more convenient than traditional non-ratcheting ones. The ratcheting mechanism on these still feel as good as new.

I also have a set of Aldi ones. The feel of them definitely can't compare to gearwrench. It's like night and day. Not sure how you observe the opposite.

        • It's likely after a few hard uses the aldi ones go pretty bad pretty quickly. Both of my sets are pretty new so things likely change are some hard use

  • Good deal! I'd get it if I didn't already have a Gearwrench set that goes from 9-19mm.

    Local prices are absolutely ridiculous.

  • wow nice

  • Thanks OP, got a set to try out.

Wanted kincrome or equivalent but cant beat this price.

  • Ordered… probably never use it… but had 60 dollar voucher from the hard drives hahaha

    $40 shipping without Prime

  • Apparently there's a lifetime warranty on these, however I just noticed this on the Amazon product page.

"Manufacturer warranty may not apply but you may have other rights under law."

    Any thoughts on this?

as much as I want this Im not paying $60 a year for prime, I dont buy a lot from Amazon :/

    • Isn’t there still a free trail period

found a better cheaper 17pc set on ebay

  • No offset or reverse switch, basically useless.

  • I bought from last deal and used it twice, couldn't be happier with the quality at this price point.

  • Seen any bargains on the 12-piece metric ratcheting flex-head set? Been keeping my eye out but can't seem to find them for under ~$200

  • Thanks for the post and the mention, I grabbed another set while they are cheap.

  • For anybody that snoozed on the above deal and missed out, if you're lugging around a shoulder bag for site/construction work as I do, I use a similar set to the below and they're regularly around this price for equivalent sets.

It beats taking a punt at common site sizes and getting caught out when someone has used an odd bolt/nut to repair/replace something. It also beats carrying around a full set (1/3rd the weight) when space is limited and weight is of concern if lugging a bag around all day.

No offset but for the work I was doing it was a no brainier. (Electrical/comms maintenance technician in oil & gas).
