  • is this PSU gold, silver, bronze or ?

      • i mean the Grade (Efficiency level certifications) of the power supply.
        im refering to this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_PLUS

        • +2

Umm, no he wasn't, i guess we assumed that you would understand computer jargon, obviously not.

        • -2

I've been out of the IT game myself for a while, even I wasn't aware of this PSU Olympiad! ;)

I'd be happy to award Antec the brown medal for their efforts IME! :p

        • yeh i guess i was harsh in expecting them to know their stuff, especially since they just sell random deals on their site, but on the other hand you would them to do their research and understand what they are selling, how else would they know if what they are selling are actually worth selling.

  • +2

no. gold, silver, bronze are always related with PSU grade. btw you still havnt answer my qustion. 80+ what ? 80+ platinum / 80+ gold / 80+ silver / 80+ bronze / or what ?

    • +1

From info provided, manufacturer claimed "high efficiency (>80%)" so it is not certified, just a claim. No gold, no silver, no bronze, and no booze. It may achieve 80% efficiency for a brief moment before dropping to hell etc.

      • +1

oh well. better wait than. :)

  • +3

No name Chinese shit. zif you need 850W you muxt have like $500+ worth of GFX cards, unless you want them dead then buy something better.

    • yeah. i bought 520W Antec high current gamer for like $105 (perth) . thats why i was kinda curious.

      • +4

I've thrown out about four Antec Truepower PSU's…not a fan anymore!

        • I've had one of the Antec PSUs die on me too. BUT I used it for over 6 years.

It gave a sharp snap and made my room smell. Funny thing was, because of the smell, tracing the problem to the PSU was a cinch.

That being said, I still consider Antec a somewhat reputable brand, especially compared to the generics.

    • aren't good psu brands like corsair made in china too?

      • they are made in china. however, the quality check and the quality standart are diff.

      • +1

Yes but you will usually find they aren't designed in China and are built to better quality standards….

  • I don't know much, i've only heard that the best brands are Seasonic and Corsair, in fact Corsair uses some Seasonic parts in their PSU. Though, as i advise anyone who asks me, check online reviews for the particular model you want, for even though the brands are good they might come up with dodgy models or might have a dodgy batch you need to look out for.

  • +2

Hmm should I trust a PSU that

    1. I can find no information about who actually makes it.
    2. Seems to be a re-badge job specifically for the Aust market.
    3. Has been deliberately given a name and model number that is similar to Cooler Master (A reputable manufacturer of PSU's)

1 and 2 makes me doubt it's quality.
    3 just makes it dodgy.

    I think I'll pass.

    • +1

Yeah, at first glance I thought it was Cooler Master & pos'd the deal…I won't retract yet for two reasons:

      1. It is genuinely $22 cheaper (shipped) than the cheapest on Staticice ($95 plus shipping)!
      2. I bought a cheap PSU off these guys a couple of months back for $20 shipped, it's still powering on like a champion.

These guys were good with price, shipping & communication on all of the 5 or 6 orders I've placed with them. I'd have no hesitation buying off them again!

      • +1

Who cares if a crap PSU is cheaper here than elsewhere. It is still junk that no one should be recommending. Going by your theory I should put up a link here and say no go to MSY and buy a SHAW….

Anyone that actually needs a 850W must have some serious GPU power and I would not recommend skimping out on the PSU as putting that much load on it will probably kill the PSU, potentially along with the rest of the computer and/or catching on fire. I would be VERY surprised if this PSU can actually handle 850W. Also there is the question of how clean the power output from this unit is, which I'm going to guess at that price is going to be dirty as all hell.

Otherwise you will probably find most people here don't even have high end GPUs and can suffice on a 430W Corsair or Antec which are better quality, certified to be 80 Plus and cheaper.

          This is OzBargain, not OzHardwareReviewByKnowItAlls!

Voting here is based on the monetary value of the deal, and reliability of the dealer; not uninformed speculation on perceived quality of a product. Come back & tell us all what you know when you have something tangible to offer…probably's & maybe's don't cut the mustard for grown-ups! ;)

        • +1

Well it isn't a bargain if the product is a piece of useless crap. You've got nothing to say otherwise other than your own perceived quality

          Look at it this way:
          *Supercheap PSU
          *No-name manufacturer
          *No test reviews anywhere
          *no 80 Plus certification

Not exactly a very credible product then it is.

Take a look on PCCG (a known and very reliable IT components supply), the closest Silverstone, Antec, Corsair, etc unit are $165+ and there are reviews out their that prove they can handle (and in most cases exceed) their rated loads and keep well within the power quality standards for ATX PSUs.

As I said if you ACTUALLY NEED a 850W PSU you have some serious gear worth alot more than the extra $100 investment in a quality PSU (not to mention you'll likely be saving on your power bill through increased efficiency) and not risk crapping out your gear or burning your house down with Chinese junk. You'd have to be an idiot not to go for a TESTED AND PROVEN PSU vs. this cheap un-tested and un-certified knock off.

EDIT: If you look this doesn't even have the right connectors (4x 6+2 pin PCI-E) to power high-end GPUs or SLi/CF configs that actually need the amount of power this can supposedly provide…goes to say alot about the credibility of this product! ;)

        • It's up to every individual to make their own informed decisions about exactly which products they purchase, give others some credit.

OzB is for locating the cheapest prices for any given product, whether or not that suits your purpose or not is utterly irrelevant. Give your opinion by all means, you may or may not be right…also irrelevant…but the voting system is for outright ripoffs & blatant misrepresentation…neither of which is applicable here!

        • Double post, woohoo…thanks dodgy router!

If you wanna help Stewy find me a good deal on a decent N300 modem/router…real cheap coz I am stingy! ;)

    • +1

Oh and for the record Cooler Master themselves arent even a reputable manufacturer of PSUs. Theirs are average quality at best…

  • +3

Whats the Underwriter's Labratory (UL) number on them?

    http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/template/LISEXT/1FRAME/in…

Will tell you who makes it. If it doesn't have a UL number… I wouldn't touch it at all.

  • Seriously wouldn't trust this to power my expensive computer with.

  • +1

Never skimp on a no-name brand PSU, if it blows or surges it could fry all your other components.

Stick with reputable brands like, Silverstone, Seasonic, Thermaltake, Antec, Corsair etc.

    • -1

Not a valid reason to neg; especially if you are crazy enough to think Antec are actually good???

      • +3

Jump on Whirlpool…tell everyone this is better than an Antec. Guarantee you will be shot right back down lol

And for the record my Antec Tru Power Trio has been going for almost 4 years strong now….

        • -2

          facepalm

What is this, the sixth grade??? You just don't get it, and most likely never will with your attitude!

Good for you champ, you should marry your Antec…I've divorced at least four TP's & dumped their bodies in a shallow otto-bin! Tell your schoolfriends on WP that! :p

        • +1

Or the fact people on Whirlpool aren't out-right tight asses that no nothing about PSUs and instead choose based on quality lol.

Fact is fewer people experience problems with a reputable brand PSU (yes this includes Antec) than cheap crap (such as this PSU).

        • Like I said, repeatedly, 4x Antec TP's in the bin in the last 5 years…they are not infallible! You might wanna do a little research on that!

I agree, the PSU should be appropriate to the system it's in, but it's not hard to calculate what you need; nor is it difficult to determine the voltage/current load each rail can deliver; get yourself a multimeter. Guys like you crack me up, I've seen this PSU carry-on for literally decades…sometimes it's valid, sometimes not. However, you guys know everything but can only spout brand names & reference WhingePool…yet no fundamental understanding of the underlying electronics!

Please, stop going on like WP is the Oracle of Delphi…it's not, plenty of Johnny-come-lately, know-nothing, know-it-alls there too! Do yourself a favour & find some other sources of reference! ;)

      • +1

I think it just depends on the product line. I can't really speak for the lower end units but the Tru Power new series (and above) are known well known for their reliability and stability.

      • And you're crazy enough to think "Cooler Power" is better? Gtfo.

You've clearly demonstrated you know nothing about PSU's.

  • I followed this guide when deciding what power supply to get
