Hi All,

Just purchased this up for my partner. Cheapest I have seen the 5s plus with the rose gold and white band.

I personally have the 5x plus and it is a great watch.

Thanks mate got 0 can't afford it. Will wait until the prices falls below $499.

  • How is this compared to Apple Watch, especially with the higher price tag?

    • +1

Different devices for different markets. I have the Garmin Fenix 5. The Garmin has a substantially longer battery life and is more well suited to hiking, and multi sport tracking, like swimming, cycling, running. But as a smart watch it's a little lacking, the notifications suck, the screen lags a little, and the interface isn't very intuitive. But it's great for what I need it for.

If you're not sure why you need the Garmin I'd wager you're probably going to be happier with the Apple Watch. As a day to day smart watch where you might want to track the occasional run or cardio workout, the Apple is better in my opinion.

I have the Fenix 5 (non plus) and my wife has the 5s plus. I don't know if it's the difference between the smaller battery in the 5s or if battery usage of the plus models is substantially higher, but my wife's 5s lasts about 1/4 of the time of my 5 on full charge. It's not usage based either as she just uses it as an expensive step counter, whereas I regularly use the activity tracking and GPS features.

But as spacenoodle said, if you don't know why you need a Fenix 5 over an Apple Watch, you need an Apple Watch!

    • That is interesting that the battery is so bad. I have the 5x plus (A bigger battery I know) but I can get almost 2 weeks out of mine with mild use and jsut tracking my workouts once a day. When I use it mountain biking though it will use 50% battery in about 4 hours of riding.

  • Garmins are not smartwatches but activity trackers.

The main con for me is the very Spartan watch screen. I like analogical hands but all analogical faces on these watches are a joke - had to use a digital one ( that is very good btw). The functionality with your phone is also limited but I personally don't care about it.

Another con is software. The Garmin app is locked in the last decade. Slow as hell!

The pros are longer battery life compared to current smartwatches + pay wave and limited spotify music (Fenix plus series). Pairing with Strava is a dream.

    • +1 to the Garmin pairing to strava - one of the main reasons I bought it. Absolutely flawless
