Purchasing an Item to Reach Free Delivery Spend and Then Returning It?

Myer has free delivery for orders over $49 and anything below that threshold is $6.95. The item I want isnt in stock locally (rules out click and collect) and its only $20. I'll then add a 'filler item' that I have no intention of using but will return in store. Effectively this gives me free shipping for the one item I wanted that is out out stock locally.

Is this wrong? but would this actually work?

Go for it. Obviously the cost of fuel to get to the store and your time spent to return it are of no value to you.

Will the time and cost to drive to myer and return it outweigh the delivery cost??

The time and cost of returning the other item. If it's less than the cost of shipping, you are a winner.

But you would be the type of person i would avoid buying anything from.

    Morals are good to have.

  • Well, you can ask what stock does your local myer need and get that as your “filler item”. Does it make you feel better by helping them move the stock?

Poor form for mine $7 for delivery is more than reasonable. Either pay up or buy else where. This is why we can't have nice things.

Here on ozbargain people aren't happy unless the company is making a loss.

  • I'd happily pay $6.95 to avoid queuing up with a dozen people.

  • Please don't abuse the system.
