WD TV Live $98 at Clive Peeters

200

Clive Peeters are selling WDTV Live for $98 till 12/06/11.

The clive peeters website has it listed as a "web special" but I have a junk mail catalogue advertising it aswell (maybe QLD only).

Have OW beat it by 5% = $93.10.

The catalogue is titled "PRICE CRASH – unbelievable deals!" – I cant find it online to post link.

  • Nice, been waiting for this sale for a while now

  • What do you think the chances are that a Perth Officeworks would match this

    • +1

They will but they will normally include postage too ($11.95)…making it around $104

Edit: Didn't realise the Rick Hart link…you can just pricematch to them in Perth : )

Here's the rickhart link, as both clive peters and rickhart are owned by Harvey Norman, looks like every deal clive peters has, rickhart also has. Their websites are identical.

    • From here Clive Peeters bought Rickhart, Harvey Norman later bought Clive Peeters.

  • Cool there's a Rick Hart round the corner :) This is the one with no harddrive inside right ? and will definetly play HDef Mkv's ?

    • +2

      Yes and yes.

  • I saw it online on thr CP website a couple of days ago for the $98- quoted. They have had it at that price before.

  • I dont get what exactly this does and with wifi?

    • +2

Plays video, music and displays pictures to your big LCD/plasma. The best thing is it plays a wide variety of formats, up to 1080p resolution.

You can plug in a USB Hard Drive, or connect it via your network to a PC or Network Attached Storage. There are compatible USB wireless adaptors you can purchase seperately, but using ethernet or USB storage is more reliable.

I've had one for about 6 months and both my wife and I love it. The best thing is how easy it is for a non-techo (e.g. my wife) to use.

I would previously stream to my TV via my Xbox 360, but this supports much wider variety of file formats (e.g. MKV), consumes less power and it is silent!

      • Thanks Timbo… might be what my mother is chasing!

      • Can I put a WiFi dongle on it and stream things from my computer?

        • +1

Yes - but may pay to check the WDTV Live support pages to see which Wi-Fi dongles it 'officially'supports

  • Its in Vic catalogue as well.

  • Officeworks Glenn Waverley have updated their price to match that of Clive Peeters so no discount anymore

  • In order to not give the further discount, looks like even the official OW website lists it for $98:

Thumbs up to the OP - I've been waiting for this sale to come around again after I missed it last time :)

    • bloody OW :P

    • bloody OW :P

  • Just so you all know, officeworks prices are the same at every store in the country so if one store has changed, then they all have changed.

  • Hi, does anyone know of any way I can fool YouTube into thinking that the WDTV is a PC so that I can view restricted content?

It's bad enough using the mini remote to enter ascii letters to conduct a YouTube search, and then have half of the results not even play. YouTube says the media can not be played on these types of devices. :(

    • Don't you just login in once with your youtube account and you should be fine considering your over the age of 18 years old :).

  • Which wireless dongle is recommend/cheap guys?

  • I recently bought one of these, have updated the WD firmware from Version 1.04.17_V to the latest Version 1.05.04_V.

My question is what is a good 3rd party firmware to use with this product?
I noted B-Rad is based on older WD 1.02.21 firmware (0.4.7.3)
I have noticed B-Rad 1.03.49 (0.4.7.3) but not sure if this is better? I do not yet understand difference between the flash and non-flash firmware.

Could anyone shed some light on this. I have read 20 or so pages on whirlpool forums and WDTV forums re. above.

Would be interested to hear what everyone has

  • I just bought another one from JB HiFi a couple of days ago on special for $117 =-/

  • Yay, I missed this price last time, had been waiting for this to go on sale again, and just bought the last one on the shelf from OfficeWorks Glebe in Sydney for $98. The OfficeWorks guy said they had been selling well since their shelf price was reduced from $149 or so a few days ago (although that price was too high, IMHO).

I'm coming from an old Xbox series 1 modded with XBMC as my media player, and whilst that has been a great little box, way ahead of its time, it's been struggling lately on some files, and it can't read USB devices larger that 4 GB (so I've been using a 4GB USB stick to move files around), and it has a fan that makes some noise, and it consumes a lot of power even in standby (so have to remember to turn it off at the wall when not in use), and it has an annoying cable for the controller. Hopefully this will unit corrects those faults, whilst still retaining the good media player aspects.

I would be very interested to hear what firmware people are running on theirs though. I've read that B-rad is the way to go, but I'm a bit unsure now after reading mangew's question above, that makes is sound a bit out of date.
