Going to be on ‘Millionaire Hot Seat’ in two weeks - strategy ideas?

Hi,

I’m pretty good at trivia and after a few auditions (yes, you have to audition for this show lol) I got on to the show.

I’d like to hear your thoughts on how to maximise my chances of winning.

I’ve heard other’s say the best strategy is to pass as soon as you get to the hot seat so that it comes back to you for the final question… but I think that’s only wise if you are one of the first 1-2 contestants, otherwise, you potentially relinquish your only time in the hot seat - there are 6 contestants (including yourself).

Also, for every question that someone gets wrong the money decreases significantly
$1,000,000
$250,000
$100,000
$50,000
$20,000 etc

The top two (maybe three) prizes have to potential to change my life. $50,000 is amazing… but to be fair will only help me pay of my home loan a few years quicker… it won’t change my life significantly.

So, for me, it’s go hard or go home. I’m willing to risk getting a question wrong instead of passing, as I only want to win big, instead of just ‘win’.

What are your thoughts?

Relax, try and have a good time.
Don't get swayed by the lights and all the distractions and the audience.
    Focus.
    Wear a Collingwood tie.

Good work, I only got through the first 2 stages when I tried out a few years ago. Make sure to tell us what day your episode is airing so we can watch.

The most important strategy is to make Eddie like you and then listen carefully for his cues. If he likes you he will tell you when you're wrong. Say things like "I'm leaning towards B…" and see what he says. If he says, "so lock that in?" then it may be right. If he reads the question again then it is wrong. Also make sure to start talking about the question as soon as your time starts - if you stare blankly for 30 seconds and then quickly blurt out "lock in B!" just before the time runs out then he has no chance to help you. However all this only works if he likes you, other people he tries to get out of the chair as soon as possible. I'm not certain but I think he's more likely to like you if you're young (especially female) or you have a sob story. Anyone who acts arrogantly he doesn't like. Also if you win the $1000/lifeline don't be an idiot and waste it early on. If you're going to use it make sure it is the difference between winning $100,000 and just keeping the $1000. If you're more than 2 questions away from winning just keep your $1000.

Friend of mine went on it a couple months age and she said exactly what quantumcat says.

Eddie absolutely ushers certain contestants to the end with the way he locks answers in or says "final answer?". Make sure the person you bring with you has character. If I was you, I would study old episodes for the words, faces and timing Eddie uses to coach people. He does occasionally pull the rug out at the end. Answer every alternative during your time for unknown questions. I don't think Eddie likes people who pass easy, known questions.

    Oh boy.

In the airport now, heading back home.

I was the last man standing. Had the $50,000 question… I logically worked out the answer…. but got spooked when Eddie didn’t react and changed my answer from the right one to the wrong one.

Oh well, at least I won $1000

So many mixed emotions right now!!

What a pity, commiserations, but congrats on getting that far!
How do they pick who goes into the chair first? I've always wondered

      • I was actually fourth In line, but passed. It’s random

        • Dude, you gotta let us know when your episode comes out!
