Swann Smart Wireless Video Doorbell Kit with Chime Unit $131 (Was $198) @ Bunnings

70

EDIT: Was in Bunnings today (Sun 9 June) and saw that it is back on special at the same price as before.

Saw the Swann SWADS-WVDP720CM wireless smart HD video doorbell kit on Price Hipster.

Looks like Bunnings is price beating Amazon's $132.

Not as good as a Ring (no IFTTT and doesn't work with other smart devices, i.e. no Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, …), but hey, waaay cheaper (if you factor in the chime and recording subscription costs). Best price at Bunnings all year.

Great thing about it is there are no subscriptions, no fees, and no ongoing costs for recording. Ever.

Here's a review.

Spiel n Specs:

The Smart Video Doorbell lets you answer the doorbell from anywhere, so you can pretend you’re home.

You see & hear visitors but they can’t see you. Just talk back like on a video intercom via the SwannBuzz app.

True Detect heat & motion sensing triggers recording & push notifications, so you’ll always know who’s been at your door.

See everything in HD day or night with the 13ft (4m) night vision and wide 112º viewing angle for 24/7 protection.

All recordings are stored locally during 30 rolling days. No subscriptions. No fees. No ongoing costs. Ever.

Use it with the built-in rechargeable battery or connect it to your existing doorbell wiring, while internet connection is wireless.

Choose from 36 pleasant melodies on the battery-run Chime Unit which you can carry around your home so you never miss a visitor.

  • 720p HD (1MP)
  • Free 30 day video storage
  • Rechargeable battery or connect to wiring

  • Does this doorbell stream camera output to Google home hub? Or only to app?

    • Only to app. (That's what I meant by "doesn't work with other smart devices" - no Google Home, no Amazon Alexa, no Apple HomeKit, …)

  • So even though it can connect to your local network, you can't access the stored video files without the app?

That's correct. Though you can download the files, of course.

Just a word of warning to anyone who is using their wirefree wifi cameras…this device uses a different app and is not compatible with the Safe by Swann app.

    Pretty stupid decision there.

Purchased it when in-store then found the OzB post, nice timing.

Was looking at the Ring Satin model $124, whilst I like the product protection (still require a Police report to reference when placing Ring claim), decided to give Swann a ring (getit 😉 ),

What swayed me was the unit is powered by a rechargeable battery pack, comes with a chime combination which I would have preferred as a plug-in style it's completely wireless so you can carry it with you outdoors as not everyone has their phone with them.

Also the unit offers motion and button triggered video recording ot leave it online for continuous monitoring, added bonus with local storage, so there are no associated fees, yeah!

Let's see how it goes 🤞

  • Any updates how it went? Plan to get one for myself.

Yeah am happy with it actually performs as expected. Tech support respond quite quickly if you have queries. They did advise this is an evolving app, which the app does as expected. Maybe not as polished as Ring (my guesstimation).

I am able to view the front door at any time, no probs 👍 and comes with a chime at no extra cost which is why I gave this product a go.

Talking to someone is OK for what it is, they can hear me I can hear them. I'm OK with that 👍

Motion detection and doorbell activation is a 1-2 sec delay, before you receive notification and then ability to view.

Best of all is that you can retrieve images videos, anytime and free, no subscription.

Not sure what happens if it gets nicked, but it's secured by an allen key onto a plate. I have asked Swann about that.

Strange thing is I am able to view on my home Wi-Fi (as expected as same network as doorbell), but unable to view outside my network unless using mobile data (which is fine).

Battery life is good so far. Need to tweak the app's settings to your liking. Takes 4 hour to fully charge.

If doesn't perform how you like, you have the option to return 😁

      • Great and informative review! 👍

what do you mean by : Strange thing is I am able to view on my home Wi-Fi (as expected as same network as doorbell), but unable to view outside my network unless using mobile data (which is fine).

          @robinCTS thx man 😁👍
          @10muscat thx man 😁👍

Sorry if that wasn't clear. I was able to view footage (on my phone) whilst at home, of course as doorbell is connect to home Wi-Fi, same as phone is connected to.

When I'm on work's wi-Fi, it seems to take ages to connect to view and I give up. Then I switch Wi-Fi network off, use mobile data, bang, instantly connects and displays images/videos/activity, no issues.

          Hope that's clearer.

In the meantime, I sent an email to Swann and they are troubleshooting for me.

  • The deal is back on! The ticket in-store says the price is valid until 14 June.
