Eneloops. 4 batteries, swap them out when flat and recharge them. Endless loop of a continuously charged controller
I value convenience.
I couldn't be bothered changing out batteries.
I'd rather just plug the controller in when I'm done.

I struggled with this decision and went with eneloops. These apparently lose their charge after a few years while eneloops (or the IKEA equivalent) are cheap enough to be replaced when that happens. You can also use them in other random devices.
Can confirm they lose their charge after a while. Owned one since 2014 and it runs out super quick.

I got some of these wireless docks instead. Easy to get the controller on to charge properly, no fiddling just plop it down. Big red/green status lights.
They're much more convenient than fiddling with micro-usb or swapping out batteries.
$28 Energizer Dual Xbox One Controller Dock with two battery packs.
I bought two of them for my four controllers about a year ago and have no complaints. The battery component is Energizer so I'm not too concerned about longevity. Works out to $14 per controller, dirt cheap.
Only downside I can think of is that it comes with black and white battery covers, so it won't look great if you have that pink minecraft pig controller.
