Surface Pro 6 - Opinions Needed to Committ or Buy Something Else ?

hi Guys ,
I need a new laptop/tablet which is hopefully not more than 1.5kgs as I will be carrying it when I travel and use for
work going to clients houses . The Surface Pro 6 i5,8GB, 256GB is standing out due to the weight but of course there are
other options out there with better specs for same price.
I prefer to buy from Harvey Norman as i have $450 in gift cards but open to other places for the right deal .
What do you think ? Current price is $1578 incl cover/keyboard

  • Good choice, it is what I would recommend if someone wanted a good laptop that also weighed very little. If you will use it regularly at home, also get a dock so you can connect one or two monitors to it.

Long term Surface Pro user here (old device was a Surface Pro 3 i5, 8gb, 256gb, Current device is Surface Pro 2017, i7, 16gb, 512gb). The Surface Pro is outstanding when it comes to Desktop-like performance (minus graphics) in a very mobile and compact form factor. Grab a second hand Surface Pro 3 dock (it will work) and the convenience between switching from a home set up to your mobile set up is seamless. Ultimately it will come down heavily to your use cases, as the real value in the SP is its mobility and functionality IMO.

  • Currently, own the device you wanting to buy. I would recommend the top tier version i7, personally I find that i5 is too slow for me. And just a caveat if you are like me who like to put the laptop on the lap this laptop won't stand.

  • Do you need the tablet functionality? If not, I'd probably look elsewhere - these are annoying to travel with IMO (uncomfortable and 'floppy' when used on the lap, and hard to fit the kickstand on some smaller surfaces such as airplane tray tables).

    • I second this. Even just having it on my bed, it's so awkward to position.

    • No I dont need the tablet functionality , I just need light , closer to 1kg ideal with same specs or better . Have a suggestion ?

This Zenbook doesn't seem too bad for the price. $1183 after 20% off and $100 cashback on top of that. Screen may be slightly dim though looking at the reviews. Not an amazing deal, but maybe look at some other laptops with the 20% off eBay sale here.

I was looking at Microsoft surface but eventually went with a Lenovo Miix (i5 7th gen, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd). They can be bought new for $1000 regularly on special at Lenovo. This includes the keyboard. There are other specs around as well

I actually bought a refurbished unit from greysonline for around $600 and couldn't be happier.
