  • Great phone for this price

Agreed. It's also only one of two current phones with B28 and a IR blaster (other being the Samsung Note 10 Pro)

This or the Explorer version will likely be my next phone as the IR blaster is such a killer feature - would kill me not to have it

EDIT - Official LineageOS 16 was released for the Mi9 in the last day as well, in case anybody here cares.

      • Got one for a while. 20W wireless charging is legend!

      • Lineage OS16….Does that require root… and losing Google pay?

We bought two of them a month ago. Great phones, super quick and great battery life. Unfortunately two big issues that our 5 year old Samsung S5's never had.

Can't use it as a WiFi hot spot as it does not let other devices connect to it.

Bluetooth issues, connection cuts in and out on our new KIA and older Lexus, you can see contacts on car screen but can't dial from there and are forced to use the phone to dial out risking your safety and fines.

Our old S5's worked flawlessly in this regard. Great phones but not properly finished to do what you expect for a phone.

I hope there is a workaround as no matter how good value the phone is it's not worth it if these two issues can't be rectified.

      • I have weird Bluetooth issues with a redmi note 4. Only in car. I wonder if it is a xaiomi thing?

Got one of these the other week. I can say with confidence that it is a fantastic phone. Has anything you could want and runs completely smooth. Some settings tweaks required (like stopping it from killing apps periodically to save battery).

Google Pay requires you to go into the app's settings and manually allow the NFC permission. Then you have to change the Secure Element setting to HCE.

Alarms require you to manually go to app's settings and allow lock screen permission.

Google Play Music doesn't have a battery saver setting so you'll have to use the open apps list to 'lock' it open.

That's the stuff I remember having to contend with.

    • Hi Sellorio. Can you elaborate on the google pay part? I bought the mi9 from xiaomi China and have since been trying to get the NFC working but no luck … Maybe mine is a different version than this global version?

      Thanks

      • Yeah that's probably the Chinese version but I can't be sure. Try to find out if you can. I suspect you can't do anything to make it work on the Chinese version (cause of security features relating to Google Pay). Any other NFC features will still work (e.g. Myki or Woolworths Rewards).

If it's not the Chinese version then it should just be a matter of having the app running (not turned off for battery saving), secure element setting and NFC access. I think that was all the changes I had to do.

        • thanks…i even tried myki and it didnt work :(

  • Great phone. Had it for almost a week now.

Though one thing I noticed is that screen scratches easily. I ready gorilla glass focus on shatter proof at the cost of scratching. Though it may just be the coating that's not as tough.

K20 pro is out for similar price!

    • I really want one, where to buy?

    • And it's the better phone, despite being the Redmi brand. It's unbelievable how good value it is.

      • clearly you have not watched any reviews, the k20 pro has much worse camera, watch some comparisons between mi9 and k20 pro first before you talk. both still shots and video suck on the k20 pro compared to even the mi9 which doesnt have the best camera in the flagships. everything else with the k20 pro is good except the camera which kills its for me anyway. i rather have the mi9 which has a much better camera.

        • I didn't consider it because I don't care about the camera. I want a phone not a camera.

If that's the end all and be all feature for you, I would get a pixel. I certainly wouldn't pay $1000 for a camera when a $500 phone gets me to if the line specs.

    • K20 Pro is really tempting, especially the notch-less design. I don't really need B28 or SD card slot - choosing K20 Pro over the Mi 9.

BTW Mi 9T is also announced - looks almost identical to K20 Pro, lol

      EDIT: Mi 9T = Redmi K20 (non-Pro)

  • For few extra dollars, in case you are getting $681 in your total

No 3.5mm headphone jack is a deal-breaker for me, unfortunately.

  • $638 on eBay, won't let me post link

    • Can you give name of seller than thanks and model/spec/colour so people can look it up.
