Need to Upgrade Motherboard, Suggestions?

Current specs off the top of my head:
Mobo: Asrock z68 extreme 4 gen 3
CPU: Intel 2600k i5
GPU: 1060 6gb
Ram: 8

Now currently having issues with I'm assuming is my sound card as sound keeps cutting in and out and my mic constantly stops working unless I plug it back in again. I figured I should upgrade my mobo but I'm not sure where to look. I want to make sure it's going to be future proof as I don't need a new CPU just yet so it'll need to be compatible with my 2600k but when I do buy one that I'll have no issues with the next gen either.

You can't have future proof and one that's still compatible with your cpu

If the mic cutting out is your only issue, get a separate sound card - either PCI-E or USB. You cant futureproof a 2600K

  • Just buy a USB headset. Will likely sound heaps better than your onboard sound.

Already have a decent headset? Then buy a DAC or USB soundcard. I have a Fiio E10K and it's amazing. Was $50 used off evilBay.

No point replacing a nearly 10 year old piece of hardware with another piece of 10 year old hardware.

  • you can add internal (pci/pcie) soundcard or external (usb) soundcard easily with cheap options avail at under 50

  • Techfast have just released a mobo+CPU combo here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/463687

Will my 1060 still be compatible with this combo?
