[Audiobook] Free - The Art of War by Sun Tzu @ Google Play

1840

Saw this on HUKD.

There are a few different audio books of the same book that are paid. All have similar reviews and duration.

This book is the first and one of the most successful works on strategy and has had a huge influence on Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, and beyond. Sun Tzu was the first to recognise the importance of positioning in strategy and that position is affected both by objective conditions in the physical environment and the subjective opinions of competitive actors in that environment.

He taught that strategy was not planning in the sense of working through a to-do list, but rather that it requires quick and appropriate responses to changing conditions.

      You filthy pirate.

You mean to tell me Sun Tzu and his descendants no longer hold a copyright nor collect royalties on a text written over 1,500 years ago?

  • How many of us are going to war?

    • With the world in turmoil we're all going to war.

The only time Australia was attacked was in WW2 by a small bombing raid.

        • And Japanese minisubs in Sydney Harbour?

@vuduguru: Today it's Chinese warships, and they don't even have to be sneaky about it. Like a landlord doing a spot inspection on a tenant…

Bombing raids are always small … until you're the one being bombed.

          • @Seraphin7: Did you serve?

            • @Happy501: No mate, well before my time, but I've had relatives serve in various theatres. Surprise, surprise, you don't get much detail from them, but suffice to say that pulses increase when you face real action.

242 Japanese planes bombing Darwin resulting in more than 200 deaths is not what I would consider a "small" bombing raid.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Darwin

"After the 19 February 1942 Japanese raid, the Northern Territory and parts of Western Australia's north were bombed approximately 100 times between 4 March 1942 and 12 November 1943"

More bombs dropped on Darwin than Pearl Harbor.

      so what?
free vs free = free wins

some people might like using googlebooks instead
or like adding more books to their googlebooks library.

there are many public domain books that are on amazon
but i still add it to my amazon library.

How is this a valid neg?
It is not cheaper elsewhere (unless they pay you to download)
      It is (presumably) not defective
There are no issues with the retailer.
      So - invalid neg.

But what is the normal sell price? Is it always free?

I've got the version of this book narrated by Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger from GoT franchise). I listen to it every day conspiring how to overthrow my manager's rule.

    • You're a few centuries out of date.

Pretty sure Sun Zi didn't mention about tactics of using M4 rifle in the book

As a young employee at a large company, I and the other new recruits were given copies of Art Of War by one of the middle managers. I guess he thought it would help us fight the enemy companies by poisoning the food supply while we retreat or something.

I guess he thought it would help us fight the enemy companies by poisoning the food supply while we retreat or something.

Or the middle manager was a pretentious douchebag with delusions of grandeur who thought himself a savant for reading one of the most widely-translated, quoted and disseminated cultural works of ancient history.

Never discount a manager's ability to make everything about themselves.

Idiots reading Art of War and Subtle Art of Not Giving a (profanity) when they actually should be reading How To Make Friends.

    • +4

Nice gate-keeping. Sounds like you did not learn anything from "How To Make Friends" (sic)

      • Nah. I am pointing at people's constant desire to one up each other instead of learning to work with each other.

    • If you're talking the Dale Carnegie book, that is very dated.
