[Unobtainable Deal] LG G7 ThinQ $499 @ JB Hi-Fi

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Went to jbhifi at south bank, Melbourne. I went to get the $45 12 month port to Telstra, and the $200 gift card. After research I had assessed this deal as better than the $59 24 month pixel 3 or $69 24 month s10e from Optus. I was going to sit on the gift card until a phone I wanted hit right price.
Instead, I walked out with a LG g7 for $0 up front.
The g7 is marked for clearance at $499 ( not advertised anywhere). Also, jb is still running the $65 12 month port to Telstra with a $500 gift card. Boom. Sold.
Not necessarily the phone I wanted, but extremely comparable to the v30+ and other tier 2 flagship phones.
Not here to spruik the phone, but that deal is pretty good.
Apologies for the different style of post. Phone specs here: https://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/g7-thinq/specs

Mod: From information received, this deal is a single store only clearance or discount applied by staff members and remaining stock is insufficient/nil. Moved to forums so discussion can continue.

So you got the phone for free plus a $500 gift card?

    • +2

He used $500 gift card to buy the phone

  • +1

This is only a deal if you got a phone and the $0 gift card, otherwise this is a duplicate.

    • +2

It could be considered a duplicate post. Apologies for that. I was unaware that JB was still running that deal, the other posts I've seen had some restrictions to it, this one didnt. The "bargain" is the G7. I've never seen it at that price.

    • How is this a dupe? JB is selling this phone for $499. Where has this been posted?

OP also needed a plan so he joined one with a 500 gift card which he bought the phone for. OP decided to just tell a story.

The deal is that this phone is on clearance for $499.

Please explain how its a dupe?

      • The title was previously different and it was not clear what the “deal” was.

Not to mention no one else is currently able to replicate this deal it seems at any other store.

  • +3

Yeah I'm going to have to downvote this if its a duplicate, we don't have a new thread for 'what I bought with my voucher' do we?

    • +1

I dont see your downvote, where is it?

      • +1

The new title has rectified the situation, no need for 'drastic' measures.

Guys, I reckon the deal here is that the G7 is being sold at $499 at JB Hi Fi (I don't think anyone has posted this yet?) Unfortunately for the OP, it's not advertised on the website. And yeah I'd say that the Telstra port and gift card use is irrelevant for this post since that is already covered in other posts.

    • said somewhere this is a mysterious deal, not advertised.

G7 is an absolute bargain for $499. just moved on to an S10 and only because i am a slut for the latest and greatest.

    • +1

+1 on this I'm gonna try to get it.

The LG G7's good, it has a great monospeaker, headphone jack, microSD slot. Definitely a great buy at $499.
But its one of the slowest/bloated QSD 845 phones. And it has no root/custom roms.

Unfortunately, we're not getting the LG G8 in Australia (we might get the G8s-ThinQ), and LG has shut its bootloader unlock tool, so again no root/custom roms. The G8 is last phone which has a flat front display, and no camera hump. Not to mention having a microSD slot, headphone jack and IP68 waterproofing.

Choosing a great phone is getting harder and harder each year, as companies converge into:
        - selling high-priced phones with increased repair cost,
        - multiple mediocre cameras with an asymmetric hump,
        - very slippery and smudge-magnet glass construction,
        - worse speakers despite larger phone size,
        - no headphone jack (or even dongle in the box),
        - which have sealed-in batteries but poor water resistance,
        - less software support and harder restrictions to bootloader

        • You are correct, we will be getting the G8s here, comes out in July. It still has the headphone jack, microSD slot, Ip68 rating. The camera bump isn't as thick as you think it would be.

          • @cortex21: No quad DAC on the His

I've decided to go the USB OTG and a USB DAC route. Better than any internal headphone jack I figure

        • Can you elaborate on bloaded QSD?

I had a G7 but only used it for a month before passing it to the mrs…. seem good so wanted similar, but you're spot on about choosing a phone, every company wants to wallgarden their phone.

        • Bootloader unlock still possible on the v30+ at least

      Well said

I have the V30 plus and the camera is a real disappointment. Is the G7 any better?

    • I am always late and quite great. What are you saying?

  • +48

I could buy 49900 razer phones instead.

    • +2

Goddamnit here - take my upgoat…

      • +1

Har har reddit joke, good one

    • +1

and then complain about how you didnt get the confirmation email about a $0.01 phones

  • What version of the g7 is it? 128gb storage with 6gb RAM?

    • +1

That's the Plus version which was never officially released in Australia. This will be the 4gb/64gb model.

      • -6

that's why it is 499 trash 64 gigs yucks and only 4 gigs ram

        • First world problems.

  • -1

I'm a bit confused. So you paid $65 and ported to Telstra through JB and were given the G7 for $0 due to porting to Telstra? And then you received a $500 gift card as part of the porting deal?

    • +4

He used the 500 gift card to get the phone.

    • +3

I think he ports to Telstra, gets the $500 gift card and uses it to purchase a G7.

      • +1

I see. Thanks for the clarity.

    • Dupe.

      • Its a deal about the phone he just told his story and brought up you could use the $500 voucher on this

  • Is this dual SIM?

    • Yes.

  • +1

Called around in South Australia, it's $599 here still.

  • +1

Why not take the LG v30 plus for the same price? Its also on clearance at $499.

    • +2

G7 has the Snapdragon 845 and will likely get more updates than the V30 which is a 2 year old phone by this stage.

G7 also has better front and rear cameras.

V30 does have a superior AMOLED screen and slightly larger battery though (likely offset by the efficiency gains in the G7 though).

      • +5

Yeah good luck with the updates. I've had the G7 since November last year and that's when I received my last update of any kind

        • Our last update would probs be pie in a few months even then it’s still behind lg v30 for updates

          • @Toughcookie: V30 hasn't been given pie yet…at least not any model sold outside South Korea.

            • @xyron: Was referring to security update soz, were at sept while v30 is like at april or something

  • So total cost is $65 x 12 - $500 = $280 For the year?

    • Nope, the $500 was used to buy the phone. So it's still $780 for the phone plan over the year but the OP got a new phone to go with it.

    • How is this so hard for people to understand? Are there users really expecting Telstra to be handing out their $65 plan with a $500 phone for $280 for 12 months?

  • +1

Post copy of receipt please :)

  • +1

It looks like these deal is not on in QLD (i.e. phone at 499). Maybe the Telstra port allowed extra wiggle room.

  • +1

Just checked with JB HiFi in Canberra. It's $599.

  • +1

Anyone bought this deal or confirmed the price? It seems all the comments are about the features or that the price is not valid (QLD/SA/ACT).

    • +1

Called 3 stores - found one with just one in stock for $599. This is a dead deal.
      Edit: Melbourne Stores

      • +1

        Hmmm…

Maybe posting copy of receipt would be a good idea as suggested by @Gunther above.

        • Happy to post the receipt, if I can figure out how… I bought from the Southbank DFO store. There were three prices for the phone, the lowest price advertised was on the clearance wall.

          • @Jericho210: It would probably help, was there any more stock at the DFO though?

  • Just curious as why there is such little mention of the lack of updates being rolled out by lg even after they announced the update centre before announcement of the g7?

G7 still stuck on Android 8, while android update is not a real issue for me personally the lack of security updates was, only received the first update in May where previous update dates back to December last year.

Not the place for this discussion??

  • Could you please upload the receipt?
