Are Entertainment Books Worth it?

Been reading about Entertain book memberships recently, but $70 is quite a steep price to pay for the vouchers. What are your experiences with them and are they worth the $70?

If you go out to dinner twice in 12 months, you'll make it back.

Buy the app version from here for $50-$55

    • Depends now with the fork and eat club I think the benefits aren't that great as lots of food places already discount

      • Yeah but the app is like a 'one stop shop' and very easy to claim if you're out and about, without checking multiple sites and then booking through them

if you like to dine out then yes absolutely…

if your only dining out because you bought the book then No,

i have already made my monies worth… and i have only had the book for 3 weeks

i used 25% off voucher for my mums birthday dinner up to the value of $40
then a buy one get one free meal at the value of $30

thats it.. the cost of the book

and then there is a whole sub section in the forums for swapping vouchers

you cant swap vouchers with the digital version

    • i used 25% off voucher for my mums birthday dinner up to the value of $40

Were you already going to this destination for dinner or did owning the book have influence over the decision?

      • nope we were going there anyway,
i only had one voucher… didn't have time to swap another 2 or else i would have used that as well'at the same time

i have also swapped a lot of vouchers for the restaurants and cafe we frequently visit.

Depends how much you eat out. We got about $800 worth of discounts in the last year. The app is far better than the book as there are constantly updates and new offers pushed to the app - one of the best ones recently was an additional $40 off at maha (melbourne), stacked with liven $25 offer at maha.

Plenty of competition for discounted dining these days.

Relax mate your on a bargain website.

    • If you're worried about your dignity mate you're probably missing out on a lot of fun.

  • Last time we used this, the restaurant refused to accept more than one card for our party, despite receiving confirmation upon booking that they would accept one card per couple.

Unpleasant venue, rude staff, average food.

Frankly the whole thing was an embarrassing mess. We would have had a far better experience, for much less money, nearby.

    Once bitten; never again.

thats the fault of the restaurant and not the book.

i've been to a place where i used 2 25% off vouchers for 4 people and the girl just took 50% of the bill because that what made sense to her. and that happened a couple of times.

As per the Entertainment Book rules (rule # 10), you are correct that you can use one card/voucher for every couple up to three.

      Name and shame.

      • I think there are still restaurants who are conned/con themselves into doing discounts. Only after they see the horde of discounted one dinner customers they realise they got screwed and start to act up.

And rather than try to turn it into a positive experience, they just decide to dig the hole further.

I was booking Emirates flight for 3 people return to Europe a couple of years ago, found out Entertainment book had a 5% off voucher, bought the eBook, had access within 5 minutes, paid the $55 (?) and then saved a straight ~$255. Very much worth it to me on that occassion.

my ex used to get it.
Generally she'd get her money back within the first few months on theatre and concert tickets. After that it was gravy on movies, food, etc

  • It's worth it for me as I dine out quite often.
Useful BOGOF or 25% off offers for lunch options around work.

  • Whether the book is worth it depends on each person. 80% off a deal is only a deal if you like the food.

Best if you google the book and look at the available restaurants/retail offers.

Just on top of this, you can download the app without purchasing to view what’s available.

  • There is also access to a hotel booking website that has some genuinely good deals. But very limited supply so you need to get in quick.

  • If you want to dine at different restaurants, attend shows and go to movies every night you will be broke but will get value for money on the book.

For our family, absolutely but definitely get the Digital version so you don't have to remember to bring out the relevant vouchers or lug the big book around. This card was previously a must just for the 5% Woolies ecard discount as Cashrewards, you used to have to wait for the 5% disc to to be paid later via cashback (now it is given 5% up-front). There are plenty dining options that we use that is not as easy to get discounts - TGI Friday, KFC Krusher BOGOF, Sushi Sushi. Also some local dinning places that we would normally go to there anyway. Offers can be stacked too - Basilico, we get the 25% disc (up to $30), then paid the balance with the Good Food card bought with the 20% disc. Also, sometimes the rest doesn't or forget to click on the "Redeemed" button so you can go that place again with the discount. Doesn't happen very often but I booked a car rental for my last WA trip with the Entertainment card as their deal was $100+ cheaper than what I could get with my QF/Velocity/Hertz Plus/Avis Prefer/Expedia. The great thing with the digital version is that you could be in an area that you are unfamiliar with and you just key in the suburb to find all dining offers nearby so at least you are not paying full price for what could be a crappy meal.

  • Its worth it, you get back your money pretty quickly.
I haven't bought this years' yet but last year I got a discount on my car service and new tyres.
There's good deals on bowling and escape rooms, something my missus and I like to do every now and then.
Chuck in a date night dinner once in a while and you certainly make it back plus a heap.
I also like it because you can use it to help make a decision on where to go, and you try a lot of new places.

You can get the "Loving Life" App, which is a rebranded Entertainment Book, for free if you take out a Zurich Life, TPD, Trauma or Income Protection insurance policy. Dining and holiday offers are practically the same as the Entertainment Book but Loving Life is only available in the app form. It is part of the wider Zurich LiveWell offering which also includes rewards such as premium discounts, store and spa vouchers for positive activity. Livewell is similar to AIA Vitality but doesn't cost anything and you can earn points for activities such as volunteering and completing quizzes.

  • If it's just for cheap meals, then I recommend the fork and eatclub websites/apps.

But for hotels, flights etc, seems worth it if you would buy these things anyway.

  • In the old days yes. I bought last years one and certainly did not make the money back
