Get the newly released Kenwood DDX9109DABS with wireless Apple CarPlay for $824.25

    https://www.autobarn.com.au/6-8in-av-wireless-car-play-a-aut…

    • I wish they'd update the 9018 with the same layout and allow more than just pixel phones to do wireless AA.

      • +4

This is the update to the 9018, wireless AA is all on Google to implement in Aus, Kenwood’s hands are tied.

    • Looks great! What's the screen resolution on this bad boy?

      • 720p for the high-end Kenwoods - they’re the only head-unit manufacturer making HD screens for their head units. Every other brand’s flagship unit has WVGA 480p screens.

        • Surprising given there's so many screens being made for tablets/phones etc that are so much better. 720p is pretty good for a head unit at least given the viewing distance.

          • +2

@Alzori: I agree, innovation in aftermarket car audio is extremely stagnated, I think because the market is so small. A great article (about Tesla) goes into "Why does technological progress ever happen at all?" People expect technology to just constantly evolve, but there are economic reasons why phones evolve so quickly but aftermarket car stereos don't. https://waitbutwhy.com/2015/06/how-tesla-will-change-your-li…

    • How do you install these? Are these DIYs or need mechanic ?

      • +2

If you get a harness to plug into your car’s wires they’re fairly easy. The hard part is tapping into your vehicle’s speed sensor wire for wireless Apple CarPlay to work.

        • What does it use the speed sensor for?

          • +3

@lachhelix: GPS something-or-other to do with navigation through CarPlay. It's a new thing mandated by Apple I believe.

            • @FXD: How interesting… I wonder why they just don't use GPS to work out a rough vehicle speed. Surely that would be much simpler to develop!

              • +1

@lachhelix: They could.. This requirement is probably a bit of future proofing for greater driver assist needs over time where even greater accuracy is needed. I mean for the spec, not so much the actual head unit.

You can spoof the VSS wire by attaching the wire from the head unit to a GPS unit. You can see people doing so on YouTube. Carbon Car Systems has a video showing just that. So if it too hard to find the VSS wire, buy a cheap GPS receiver and install it under the dash and connect it to the head unit. It will think it is the VSS wire and the system will work.

Saw this e-mail, went to their site, most items say check store, closed their site, deleted the e-mail

    • Does not start until Friday so maybe check back tomorrow.

    • +6

      Yeah, the website is junk

    • They don't answer emails asking if they have an item either.

  • +1

Sweet. Was shopping around for a new battery today!

Good enough to stock up on some Bowdens Own products

    • Anyone know if they stock the Plush Brush in stores?

    • Yep, gonna grab a wash pillow and some Happy Ending.

  • Can anyone recommend me a head-unit with reverse camera for Mazda 3?

    • +1

      What year ?

      • +15

        he wants it this year

    • +1

Assuming you Mazda is old enough that a double DIN head unit will be able to replace your head unit with a fascia replacement, just about any will do. If it it a newer one with a seperate monitor then you can’t, eg anything from 2013 on.

The Kenwood discussed above is on my list for my 2011 SP20. Although as it has the amplified Bose system it will cost a lot for cables to install plus the speed sensor wire connection for wireless carplay looks like I will have to lift out the instrument panel. Might be worth paying someone.

For some reason Kenwood have been real slow to release the DMX8019DABS which is the mechless version of the DDX9019DABS (mechless means no DVD player). In this sale that model would be $674.

Obviously, I want the wireless carplay and the capacitive screens to be paying this money, as the ever favourite Sonys will also be on sale.

Both units have ability to control up to three cameras. As this Mazda will be used by the younger entropys I am planning to install a reverse camera and the Kenwood DRV n520 dashcam which works with these head units and has lane departure, too close to car in front warnings etc.

      • Will Autobarn install a head unit and reverse camera if i buy them at Autobarn? I'm considering to buy a 2008 - 2011 used Mazda 3

        • +1

Just popped in to autobarn. It’s $150 install, plus wiring. More if you want cameras installed at the same time.

      • +1

I believe the other thing the DMX misses out on is the HD 720p screen - it comes with a capacitive WVGA 480p screen.

        • +1

Not the DMX8019DABS. It’s the same just without the DVD player.

The DMX8019S is lower spec and doesn’t have wireless carplay. At that point there are a heap of options. Also if you can find it there is a JVC wireless carplay unit with a resistive screen in that price range.

this place any good for roof racks ?

    • +1

I believe they do rhino racks? They are pretty good

      • +2

Yep, bought Rhino Racks from one of their previous sales. Good quality stuff.

    • +1

Yes, they are good for this.

  • Justttt great!

Just paid full price for a battery with nrma today 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

  • +8

Ive been charging my car every day and carrying a battery pack around for a week waiting for a battery deal! Thank you!! You just saved me $75

    • +2

You my good sir are a true ozbargain hero.

    • I bought one last week, was $30 off but would be $55 off with this sale :(

  • +1

Discount is active site wide now

  • Anyone knows how much autobarn charges for headunit installation? And do they do it for cheaper or free if you buy the head unit from them?

    • +1

I doubt it would be part of the sale. They would just contract it to someone. Expect about $150 to $200. Depends on car I would suspect. Also don’t forget cost of wiring and a fascia.

      • Confirmed installation is not included in the sale discount.

  • Bought a car battery yesterday :(

    • +1

By a new one then return it using the old receipt saying it was the wrong one.

  • Would it be better getting Blackvue dashcam from here or getting on Ebay with %off sale?

    • +2

When was the last time you saw 25% off on ebay? I've been waiting for a Blackvue DR900S-2ch. Almost grabbed it at 15% off on ebay a while back as that was the best discount in a long time but because it's for my weekend car I wasn't in a hurry so waited. Grabbed it today from Autobarn and saved an extra $60 over what I would've got it from ebay even though the starting price was $20 more than ebay.
Of course they do have the Plus weekend on this weekend but I still doubt you'll see that level of discount.

    • Autobarn has had 30% off before - but depends how soon you want it.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/426960

      • +2

Yeah but 20% is the more common discount so I was happy with 25%. Buy the 16gb version as well and get an aftermarket SD card. The 128gb packaged camera is over $200 more than the 16gb one which is a complete rip off.

        • I couldnt see a 16GB dual channel?

        • +1

I just picked up the last one from my local autobarn (Malaga WA), price rang up at $768.98 - 25% = $576.74, and there's a promo on atm where they throw in a power magic pro for free

          • @sparrow: I wasn't offered that, in fact they tried to sell me one. Wasn't interested for the car that it's going into but would have one for free.

  • See if I can get some bargains for the windscreen wipers :)

  • +2

I don't get why you have to call them up for the price of a lot of their products. I did that and it still worked out cheaper for the stuff I wanted if I bought them elsewhere :/

  • +1

I had to remind the cashier to apply the discount (they have to scan an extra barcode). Remember to double check your payment total guys :)

    • Yeah that's a turn off with autobarn.
Repco won't shift stock between stores using the online order. So if it's in stock at a store a few suburbs away, then you can't place an online order for your local store and pick it up.

That's where super cheap does it better. And they price match other stores (without much fuss in my experience). Had one order go wrong but there's a chance that you'd get that everywhere I guess.

  • This is so great!
I got a supercharge gold plus battery 40 months warranty at 30% off!

  • Autobarn suck.
