Hi Ozbargainers!
Strive Fitness is opening Australia's first Smart Gym in Parramatta, just opposite Westfields and a short walk from the Train & Bus Station.
Located at 110 Church street Parramatta

Strive Fitness is the first gym to offer Robotic Support (imagine an electronic spotter) for exercises such as the Bench Press, Squats or Deadlifts, making lifting heavy freeweights much safer and enable our members to push to failure with confidence.
Among other things our equipment connects to our free smart phone app to enable our members to track all their workouts include cardio (distance run), calories burned, weights lifted, total workout volume, reps, sets and tempo guidance.

To celebrate this new milestone in the fitness industry we're offering our PRE-SALE Memberships at only 14.99/week with absolutely no startup costs, you save the $99 joining fee and the $69.95 smart access key by signing up before we open this august.
If you sign up before the End of June, you also get access to our EOFY Sale just by entering the dsicount code EOFY2019 on checkout, to get the first 3 months for 9.99/week, then the following 12 months for 14.99/week

It's designed to make lifting safer, since we are a 24/7 gym this is just one measure we have taken to both ensure the safety of our members and enable them to progress without worry.

I for one welcome our new robotic overlords

Are those safeties always touching the bar..? Doesn't this make all barbells just glorified smith machines?

    • +2

I thought it meant it was smart enough to track your bar speed to detect when you were failing and bring the safeties up

Smith machines operate on a 2d plane meaning you only lift in one direction (upwards), this is still a freeweight. You only get the assistance when it is requested and you also specify how much load you want to be assisted.
Smith machines also do not give you assistance, you can't automatically lighten the load mid exercise with a smith machine

can you set the safeties to be constantly at a fixed distance below the bar so when you fail the bar only drops by like 10 cm?

        • Hey star-ggg that is a great suggestion, I'll mention it to the developers. It can be easily updated through software

  • Don’t you think Apple Watch integration is a must to be taken even remotely seriously as a smart gym?

    • Our current app integrates with Apple health services, however our main goal is to make resistance training smarter and trackable

  • Hi OP, good job and price for the offering. Couple of questions:

    • can you park memberships while away/sick? If yes is there a cost or limit on how long you can do this?
    • is there a notice period or cost when terminating your membership? If so how long and/or how much?

    Thanks in advance!

    • Hey ccrap,
Thankyou, our aim is to make it affordable for everyone to use. We offer better value for a higher quality product than our competitors.
Notice period for cancelling is 2 billing cycles (2x2weeks payment)
Membership freezes are minimum 2 weeks to maximum 3 months per year.
Freezes cost 3.50 per week unless it is medical, in which case it is free.
Freezes also extend your contract period by the duration of the freeze.
Cancellation fee if you exit your contract is $300 or the remainder of your contract (whichever is less)
Memberships rollover until you want to cancel just like any other gym

  • Only in Western Sydney :( will you ever open a gym in the city ?

    • We're always on the lookout for real estate in the city so hopefully we can find something in the next year or so.

  • What's the deal with contract gyms charging extra for smart access keys? It can't be as a deterrent since you pay before you've lost them. Are these just dirt-cheap NFCs or something else?
