  • $50 to $60 per light includes led light and installation. Also depends amount of work that decide price more lights cheaper lights.

    • I was gonna say $60 per as well.

    • Thanks . So do you mean the more lights i put in the less each light might cost .

Im wanting to do pretty much my whole house

      • Downlights don't suit every room. I find the light from downlights in our main bedroom to be lacking for instance. Maybe for big entertaining areas they might be ok.

I guess I'm just warning from blanket installing downlights everywhere, otherwise you might see yourself adding additional lighting later to make it look nice.

        • Thanks will take into consideration. Im still deciding whether to do just the living areas or the bedrooms as well

        • Depends what type you buy though. There's downlights then there's downlights. A lot of cheap LED ones are really bad. REALLY bad as dispersing the light eveninly ina room, or are very narrow spotlight types or just quite dim in general etc etc.

I don't know what the "standard" is these days so this may be a null comment, but I'd also get ones that don't require any sparkies to do any maintenance. So something like direct 240V GU10 or ones with normal plug in transformers.

In the place we bought one of the 12V downlight transformers kicked the bucket but being a mains wired device required a sparky to "officially" change it.

    • Thanks ill ask about it . So do you mean when the light dies you need a sparky to come out and change it ?

Ideally, you want to ensure that every light in the ceiling has a 240v plug that the actual light fitting plugs into. That way you can replace the entire fitting yourself later, as you only have to plug it in to a normal socket.

        • Ok thanks i didnt know that

  • It might cost extra if access to the wiring/roof space is difficult. Installing to bottom level of a two story house might be difficult and require extra time to run cables through narrow areas, or if a standard pitched roof with easy manhole access will be easy.

    • My house is single story with standard roof and manhole access
