Massive IKEA Ladda Price Rise (now $14.99 for 4x AA)

Looks like the LADDA train might be over.
Wandered into IKEA yesterday and thought I'd see if the batteries happened to be on Family special price, only to see a 50% rise instead. From $9.99 to $14.99!

https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/70303876/

I wonder if there has been a change in supply cost or they've finally put up the price to match their reputation/demand.

(AAA's are $12.99 now)

  • must have gone up today, as i bought some yesterday for the normal price!

    • Don't confuse the 2450mah one with the other less capacity (same size)bqttery

      • nope, i was at Springvale Ikea yesterday and bought 2 sets of them for $9.99. I know they were $9.99 because i had a return cards worth $20 that i used

        • Hi yes it should be the correct ones.

Frankly, I believe this comment to be underrated.

    Where's the pitchforks and torches?
I bet this is Elon Musks doing!

so it will be around $3.50 per battery.

https://ru.nkon.nl/8aa-panasonic-eneloop-botanic-in-blister.… also come to about the same once delivery charges are taken in to account.

Even Turnigy from hobby king are costing the same.

Based on these prices ordering the standard made in japan eneloop from Nkon seems to be the best option.

Or order from amazon for similar price.

  • Dang bros, I just bought a couple packs last week at $8.99, the hell…

  • Stick with the ALDI rechargeables

    • +1

Well their relative bang-for-buck value just shot up that's for sure!
Assuming they are still the same price …

      • What're they called? I really wish they had a more user friendly website..

  • Went to IKEA today and was going to grab some. Picked up a few packets and thought I'd better check the price. Ended up putting them back as I was bloody sure they weren't that expensive last time I looked. Searched here and found this thread. Disappointing.

Maybe Rare Earth/tariff related? Lanthanum is used in nimh batteries. Praseodymium, neodymium and cerium, too.

  • Sad face

  • 4 pack Eneloop Pro AA (2550mAh) and AAA (950mAh) on sale for $17.50 seems good value now that the Ikea batteries have gone up in price.

    Ikea Ladda AA (2450mAh) $14.99 (up 50%).
    Ikea Ladda AAA (900mAh) $12.99 (up 30%).

  • Just stopped by Aldi and bought a couple packs of their rechargeables just incase. They were still $6.
Not as high capacity at around 2000mAh per battery (using a Li-500) but they now by far win the mAh/$ measure (while still looking like decent quality batteries)

Incase anyone reads up this thread later on…
      I take that back, literally.
When I tested the latest buys, they tested multiple times around 1500mAh for AA, 500 for AAA. Now I get an Li-500 isn't a be all and end all but the convincing part is I got out my older Aldi batts and they tested the same as before; around 2000 for AA, 700 AAA.

There's minor wrapper difference where the old ones have a shiny chrome colour whereas these are dull silver/gray.

Will be taking these back for a refund, still 50/50 on whether I want to try again or not.

  • Surprised there are no negative reviews on the Ikea website about the price increase.

    • Shouldn't the reviews be about the product? At $14.99 the cells are still cheaper than Eneloops, better than Chinese Eneloops, and they work really well. It's definitely not the bargain that it was, but the product is still good. Why should someone leave a negative review?

      • I didn't say anyone should, I am surprised there aren't.
Have you not seen the outcry at things like when people don't get targeted for a $3 ebay coupon?

Oh, sorry, I get you now. You're right, that is a bit surprising. :)

  • My batch of laddas just died. I was using them roughly recharging once a day for around 3 years. A bit of rotating, but I think I got around 400 cycles out of them at least.

Currently they prematurely finish charging and the amount of time in the torch is limited, it only reaches 1.32V max now on the charger.

I'm not sure what to buy anymore.

The info on the 2450 mah AA ladda page says "You can recharge these batteries approx. 500 times."

So you definetly got your money's worth. What else did you expect?

The standard eneloop 1800 mah gives more cycles approx 2100

The ladda is more like an eneloop pro whch also gives "only" 500 cycles

Most people would never recharge their batteries more than 100 times let alone 400/500.

It looks like you need the 2100 cycle standard 1800 mah eneloop.

      • Oh okay, I guess I'll take a look at that specific Eneloop instead.

      • With my 2014 Eneloops (made in Japan), they've been charged perhaps just under 10 times and now are starting to lose capacity and need to be charged a lot more often.

    • Once a day for three years?! Jeez, what do you use them for?

  • I'm months late to the party but only just learnt about this. Last time I bought LADDA batteries I got a phone call from my friend's mother telling me she'd just passed away, so I can tell you it was October 2018. I will NOT miss the human rabbit warren conveyor belt that was Ikea's forced path. Cheap batteries are the only reason I've been to Ikea in years.

  • +1

Price has increased to pay for the extra accountants and lawyers needed to avoid paying income tax

  • Man it was so not worth going to ikea to buy, cheap batteries. Should have just bought off amazon. The time involved…..I'll never get back for wondering around the ikea maze.

  • Damn, I should have stocked up. I didn't expect to use up the amount I'd purchased.

But them Xiaomi Yee Lights take 3 each.
