Loved these games growing up, played the shit out of the half life mod community before steam was a thing that initially complicated everything…

    Hyped for part 3!

      Hyped for part 3!
Son I have some bad news

      • +8

… but will Gordon ever play baseball again?

      • I reject your reality!

        /waiting patiently

It's called Project Borealis, they're making the "Epistle 3" script released by Marc Laidlaw when he quit Valve into a game using Unreal Engine 4

    • Yeah can't wait. Q2 2022!!

Wake up Mr Freeman…wake up and smell the ashes.

      • When I was a kid, I remember having to read a walk through on how to kill the Nihilanth after it opened it's head.

        • +1

I had more trouble with the ballsack creature, wasn't sure I was hurting it.

More funny for me was the first time I attempted to play a Half-Life game, it was opposing force. At the start, without a weapon I made my way to the part where the zombie gets up and throws the scientist through the window.

Not having any idea about the zombie behavior, and having just watched a movie called Congo at the tender and if 10, I thought the Zombie was actually a white hairy gorilla like thing that was about to jump through the window and rapidly chase me down and kill me.
So I smashed Sprint key, raised my heart rate up to 200bpm, and pretty much RAM back to the start room and hid in a corner behind a medical trolley… That was the end for me.

After playing Half-Life a few months later, and finally finishing it, I returned to opposing force now realising it was a zombie and I casually walked past it feeling like an idiot.

I still have my half life 2 special edition shirt. Fits a bit tighter now though.

      • +10

Yeah, I find gaming shirts seem to shrink the older they get.
Actually all my clothing has shrunk lately. And my belt…
        Shoes seem fine though

Are you folks sure you didn't just get bigger?

          I know I did since HL2.

      • See, all that running and jumping over pipes and bashing have help with your muscle tone!

    • Same here! I heard it's gonna come out with Portal 3.

Someone is doing part 3 (fan made)but that is years away from closure 😓

    • +3

Why would Valve risk making Half Life 3 when they get 30% of everyone else's games.

  • +4

AI in HALF LIFE 1 wasawesome…never forget throwing a nade at enemy troops only for them to throw it back. AI in games I feel does not have enough focus by developers. best AI was 12 years ago. (fear)

Love you for loving F.E.A.R <3

  • hey does anyone know why half-life 1: source is not discounted ($14.50)? it is taking up most of the cost of the valve bundle and half-life complete bundle as every other game is super discounted!

also (if your not buying the valve complete bundle with 55% bundle discount) it looks like Half-Life 1 Anthology bundle gets you a 45% discount on the games but half-life complete bundle only gives you a 40% discount so if you want the half life set it's best to buy Half-Life 1 Anthology bundle first then the half-life complete bundle (as you only buy the games you don't have and the bundle discount doesn't change, right?). might also be worth finding some place else to get half-life 1: source steam codes too, although 55% off 14.50 is 7.25 and it is half-life 1: source (includes half-life: source and half-life deathmatch: source, not available separately) so may not count if you just get half-life: source?

    • +1

I think it's because it's just a direct port of the original game to Source and there's no significant improvements

    • +1

It has to be discounted, as it's individual price is $14.50, although it's included in the 'Valve Complete Pack' bundle which is $12.09.

      • I meant not discounted individually, yes if you buy it in a bundle you then get a bundle discount, but look at the valve complete collection they are all 90% off "was $14.50 now $1.45 or was $7.50 now $0.75 or was $11.50 now $1.15" except Left4Dead2 which is 80% off "was $14.50 now $2.90" and then there is half-life 1: source "$14.50 no discount here price as usual"

          I meant not discounted individually

It may not be 90% off, but it's still discounted.

I remember buying HL2 from K-mart when it first came out. It came on 5 CDs, and another chunk had to be downloaded/unlocked via this new online thing they had called Steam. On 33.3k DIAL UP no less! Good times.

    • For me,
Managed to BS enough to get my first humble home & mortgage. A mattress, coffee table & pc was only furniture. Dialup only available.

And, The Orange Box. Amazing value. Played the absolute (half) life out of it! (downloaded at work).

  • Half-Life 3 confirmed!!

  • I can't believe that Portal 2 is $1.45 though… That feels like stealing. The value of that is like the Terraria memes. So crazy.

    • Not sure what you were trying to say..?

I agree, Portal 2 for this price is great value. LOVED both games :)

      portal 3 when? gabe pls

  • Half life or left 4 dead or portal? What should I get to play coop?

    • +1

Well if you can stretch to get them all I'd highly recommend it, they're all amazing, and great value at this price. In terms of co-op gameplay, the Portal series is pretty good, specifically Portal 2, it's a fun platformer to scratch your head and struggle to figure out and then rejoice when it just clicks and works and you beat the level. Half life is more of a story-driven game, whereas Left 4 Dead is more of a zombie shooter sort of game, though it does have some story and sort of a unique take on the genre.

Any one you get you won't be disappointed, but if it doesn't meet your expectations don't forget Steam lets you refund as long as you haven't played more than two hours and it hasn't been over two weeks. Enjoy! :)

    • +2

      Co-op I'd say portal 2

    • +1

Left 4 dead 2 for 4 player co op. Don’t bother with left 4 dead 1 as 2 contains everything 1 does

  • If you have these games on CD/DVD from way back, don't forget you can redeem them for free by entering the CD key into Steam - the "Activate a product on steam" thing (Did this with Half-Life platinum collection)

  • Hey, if Shenmue 3 is coming out at the end of the year, then there is always hope for HL3.

    • +1

Shemue 3 will be an Epic store exclusive. Maybe HL3 will also be only on Epic in the biggest plot twist in video game history!

  • Let's also take a moment to remember when CounterStrike was a Half Life mod

  • I still cannot accept the fact that HL2 Ep 3 never came, or HL3 never came or Portal 3.

For some reason I always believed they could just never get the crossove3r to work, where you had to use Portal gun and a Gravity gun at the same time to solve puzzles and defeated enemies. I always imagined the elaborate set pieces with them trying to stop Chell/Gordon's child, but you always having some intricate way to get out and shoot your way out.

  • Good chance to brush up on your HL knowledge before HL:VR comes out sometime soon (hopefully) - https://uploadvr.com/half-life-vr-leak/
