Dynamic DNS

Hi
I was wondering if any ozb members have paid dynamic dns services and would like to take on others (for a cut of the fee). E.g. no IP or dyndns

Most dynamic dns providers like no IP have a large quantity (25) of host name and this could unused for 1 person.

I have considered the free option of no IP but is a pain to confirm activity every month.

Freedns.afraid.org and other alternatives are ok but aren't natively setup as an option in stock router firmwares or dont have a high enough uptime.

I also have a coupon for dyndns "renew now" for 20% off but it's still a RIP off. "Dyn10" is another coupon but only gives 10% off.
Edit: DLINKUPGRADE also gives 25% off

  • I use dynu for dynamic ip auto updates but I own the domain name. They have free sub domains iirc but not 100% sure if they support dynamic ip, might be worth having a look?

My router is fritzbox 7390 and it is supported internally, as well as no-ip and a bunch of others.

    Try using www.duckdns.org

Its free and can be installed on a range of devices or just as a script/service.

Yep duckdns is great. Been using it for years. Never had an issue and 100% free.

  • So what is the purpose of dynamic DNS?

    • It's a workaround to access devices on your home network when your Public IP address (supplied by your ISP) is variable as it is for most home connections.
Your router is set up to contact the Dynamic DNS (DDNS) provider regularly in order to keep them up to date as to its current Public IP address.
The DDNS provider gives you a URL and points any queries to that URL to your most recent Public IP address.

  • I use dlinkddns.dyn.com
all you need is a Dlink router

    • Thanks I liked this solution as I could use my current router

  • I renew my free no-ip one every month.
