My Dual Boiler just died, and was looking at an alternative. Had a grinder already and just needed something to pull shots and froth milk.
Comes with the same frother as the Oracle but doesn't come with a hot water spout.

Cheapest according to CamelX3.
Cheaper than recent cash back price as posted on OzBargain: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/459340
Sells for $489-$500 at the normal places.
Figured worth a gamble and if I didn't like it, I'll get a dual boiler again and bring this to work to use!

Cons coming from Oracle/Dual Boiler, would be not being able to use the frother and pull a shot at the same time. I hardly entertain so shouldn't be an issue. Heats up in 3 sec which is faster than my dual boiler!

Cashback at cashrewards too!

  • Thanks OP - but is there one that also grinds?

    • +1

This isn't badly priced, normally around $730.

But you can get a grinder for $50 and use the machine in the OP.

Edit - it's saying $679 on the link but says $627 when you search for coffee machines and is also $627 on Amazon atm.

Bit pricey tho would need to look for something cheaper if possible, but thanks anyway :)

        • Grab this if needed and a conical burr grinder. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Breville BCG820. Plus you can keep it for when you bin the Bambino. I like the concept but the portafilter turns me off. You could find a BES870 kicking in the same price bracket as that but the frothing wand on the Bambino is what will get it across the line for most. It's essentially a Nespresso Creatista machine but for people who want to use ground coffee instead of pods.

          • @kronicmacstigator: Not sure where you're finding an 870 for below $400. It recently went under $500 as part of eBay's Plus sale - that's the first time I've seen it anywhere near mid-$400. The Bambino and the 870 are different beasts for different people. The Bambino is heavily automated and has a tiny footprint. The 870 has a larger footprint and more manual control

@enzso: Where did I say a BES870 for below $400? Stop trying to put words in my mouth… Bambino+grinder=$520.

Was only recently the BES870 was $462 on Amazon… Guess what is cheaper as a package? Shock horror… The Barista Express!

              • @kronicmacstigator: Already had a grinder with from my bes920. Wasn't keen in forking out another for another machine so this will do for now

              • @kronicmacstigator: No need to be a smart-arse, I didn't realise you were comparing the Bambino and grinder as a package alongside the 870. Your post could easily read that you can find an 870 for a similar price to the Bambino - which is how I took it. Have a nice day and all the best.

  • My friend has one of these and loves it.

Great price for a very nifty machine. Here's a decent review of it explaining what it does and what you get with it (from Seattle Coffee Gear).

  • OP - thinking about this one, then read up about pressurised and non/pressurised baskets, dialing in shots to suit beans etc etc….. let me know how this goes for you as I’m thinking this or the Barista Pro.

    • By the way… All these things (pressurised and non/pressurised baskets, dialing in shots to suit beans etc etc) are said for Barista Pro too. :)

People make it sound more complicated than it is, guess it helps to try and justify what a cafe charges for a coffee…. Don't need VCE 60+ to do it….the skill set is reflected in pay scale and don't know anybody pulling coffees on $100k per year as an employee.

It's a bit like reidel glass for every wine type so they can sell more glasses but does a restaurant keep 10 different glass types for their wines.

Get a grinder, get a machine, and enjoy no hype coffee and saving money …..

Easy to do, hard to do it well

      • It is Riedel

  • Anything you could recommend without the milk wand?

    • Eh?

Almost every single machine on the market, including those that shouldn't have a milk wand. The only ones that tend to miss a wand are $40-50 pod machines

Awesome machine for those short on bench space, auto froth feature is neat too if you're feeling lazy but it's not the same as doing it yourself.

  • Not bad, there are some on eBay for $369, same seller maybe?

    • +1

No there's one on ebay for $369 by a private seller who is selling an unwanted gift.

  • Does this or the barista express make a better cup of coffee ?

    My understanding is :

The barista express seems to be more automatic

This machine seems to need ground coffee to be placed in the silver thing that they use in cafes and a bit of manual work to make the coffee so either buy ground beans from coffee shop or buy a grounder

    • No and No.

There is no much automatic in either of these machines.
Also… If you want to buy ground coffee… Maybe you should consider instant coffee too… ;)

If you are buying one of these machines please do yourself a favour and try fresh beans with a grinder. And you will never look back. :)

      • Thanks !

Possible 8% shop back as well :)
