Mclaren Vale Shiraz 2014 at $150/Dozen (Valued $600.00) Delivered @ Skye Cellars

70

Previous Vintage (2012) of this wine scored 96 Points from James Halliday Wine Companion.

Full bodied with layers of forest fruits and lashings of dark chocolate. This wine is ready to drink now or will benefit from careful cellaring for up to 10 years.

The wine was sourced from vines up to 70 years old and aged in predominately French oak (70% new) for 30 months. Excellent colour displaying an inky black core and a very deep dark purple black hue. Lifted aromatics of liquorice, blackberry and dark chocolate arise from the glass with background notes of toasty oak and spice. Rich and succulent the palate delivers generous flavours of dark chocolate, liquorice and ripe blackberries over a background of vanillin oak and spice. Opulent velvety texture with silky tannins. Long aftertaste of dark chocolate, liquorice, ripe blackberries and spicy vanillin oak.

  • Link takes me to membership page, not the deal.

I know the product and it's good value.

    • Apologies for that. Just fixed.
      Thank you.

      • Members only?

        • Fixed again. As it was only for our members in the past.

  • How is the 2014 vintage compared to 2012?

    • Last time I tried the 2012 Vintage was 5 years ago. I can't remember how it tasted. Sorry.

  • $40 delivery to Tasmania? Shame, looked a good offer.

  • Not really any reviews around for this wine. I found it was also on OB this time last year for the same vintage. Doesn't seem to sell very well.

Maybe it could be distilled into something more useful.

    • A review from one of our customers:

Carol C: Love this Shiraz, big & bold, but is so full of berry fruits & a taste of chocolate, highly recommend this one

      • How's this wine fined? Eggs milk or natural filter?

  • This is really beautiful wine. Really rich, full bodied and chocolatey.

    A steal at 12.50

  • OP, is this the same as the Possums Vineyard Shiraz 2014? I had that the other day in a mix dozen from you and that was very nice…

    • Hi Denlife,
It's a different wine from a different vineyard. This is up to 70 year old vineyard and the one you are referring to is a 45-50 year old vineyard.
They are both from the same winery though. Here at Skye we are split on these two. This is my favourite but Ervi and Dino like the reserve better.
      Cheers.

      • I bought a case, any chance you could make it half/half?

        • message me your details

      • +1

I had one of these last night with my wife, and we loved it. Just bought a second case to share around with family/friends.
