Should I Get Huawei P30 + Free Printer Deal or Wait for Perfect 5G Phone?

I'll keep it short, basically I'll need a new phone by 2020 for overseas as my Nokia 8 camera is dying on me & I was talking about this deal

Huawei P30

  • Has perfect dimensions for my wallet case I brought back in Japan & has micro SD card slot (Height is under 151 cm & its rare to find new 2019+ flagship like that)
  • Has free gift that I would actually find it useful (Printer)
  • Don't have to keep dealing with my broken Nokia 8 & potentially lose good memories just because my phone randomly locks up when using camera. I have tried gcam btw

Why wait for 5G phone

  • I just want latest tech to be future proof
  • Not a fan of p30's black top notches but can live it by using black bars at top.

  • I'd give it 2 or so years until 5g coverage would even matter.
4g isn't going anywhere soon so it's still "future proof".
However your trip is in 2020. There will be plenty of new phone releases and price drops between then and now.
I'd be targetting a new phone after Christmas if you can handle the Nokia.

    • Yeah, sounds like a good plan. Thanks for tip

  • Don't get 5G, won't be mainstream until probably 2022. There will be much better phones till then.

The Huawei P30 is decent, but it's too expensive and lacks IP68 for the price. Also it's support and software aren't the best.

If you need a device now, I would suggest getting an LG V30 for around AU$400. You might be able to get one that can have the bootloader unlocked. It's just good enough to last you a couple years, until much better devices/5G becomes available.

There's still the LG V20/Samsung Note 4-Exynos if you require removable battery. Or the Samsung S10/e/Plus if you want something good now. There's the price OnePlus 7 Pro. Or there's the ASUS RoG Phone 2 coming soon. Or in the Upper-Midrange segment there's the Nubia RedMagic 3, Lenovo Z6 Pro, and ASUS ZenFone 6.

    • Good call, I didn't know how long would 5g would be mainstream until then.

Most phones on the market are under 151cm :)

Not flagship though, manufacturer seems to bump up the size for premium model, p30 is the perfect size and has flagship performance.

      • Yeah exactly, especially with micro SD card slot. Now days it's starting to become rare for flagships to come with one.

I wouldn't mind without sd card slot if it came with like 512gb model like iphone does but then I would be burning moneybags.

There's only 4 2019 phones atm that would fill the bill for my taste.

      • CMs…
