OP do you have any details about the standby or "off" power consumption on these? WiFi type and range?

A bit thin on the technical details…

    • +1

WiFi will be 2.4g as that is standard for home automation

    • The WIFI Twin Socket/ single Socket + USB's stand by power consumption is 1.5W

The Zigbee gadgets' stand by power consumption is lower than 1W

The details are in the product data sheet that comes with the product.

      • +1

Thanks for that, yeah noticed it mentioned but would like to know before considering buying rather than after

    • Range of Zigbee mesh is 15meters (Distance from Gadgets to Gadgets)

Rang of Wifi network depends on your wifi coverage (Distance from Gadgets to Wifi Router)

Do I need to hire an electrician to install the wall socket?

    • +1

Yes, these gadgets require an electrician to install.

    • +2

Don't need to but probably in your best interest if you're asking the question.

      • +2

Its illegal to install if you're not a licensed electrician and will void any home insurance as well.

      • +1

I wanted to know the australia electricity law upon the gadgets as someone insisted that he can install it himself. But I guess Insurance will not cover any installation without a certificate by a licensed electrician.

        • +1

How does the insurance company know it was not installed by someone else?

        • +2

I'd like to know where these imaginary certificates are. I've dealt with a few sparkies before and none have given me one.

      • +1

Perfectly legal everywhere else in the world (even New Zealand). Australians require an adult to install a power point.

Can the USB ports be controlled by smart home?

What app is used for wifi version?

Does the wifi version support direct LAN control or will it be unavailable when internet is down?

If the switch is physically flicked to off position, can power be turned on by smart home control? If not, can status of power be requested by home control ("hey Google, is the air conditioner on?").

    • +1

Also….I assume that the individual plugs an be controlled via voice control? "Alexa/hey Google, switch on the lounge left socket". Good for those power points that are behind furniture.

I realise that I could do this with a pair of smart plugs, but by the time you buy two plugs and a short extension cord (because what smart plugs are thin enough to fit next to each other) then you might as well put one of these in, plus it is a lot neater.

      • Yes, the individual power plugs can be controlled via voice control once plugged in on these smart wall mount sockets.

It important how you name them, I give my sockets terrible names like this one "Left socket near door bedroom1"

If I plug the floor lamp on it then it will be much easier to manage by changing its name to "Floor Lamp in bedroom1"

    • For the first question, only the single power outlet can be controlled by a phone app, the USB ports are constantly on.

It's an app called "Smart Life" available in both Android and Apple app store.

The Wifi version does not support the LAN control, the app needs access to the cloud server to control the gadgets.

Once the switch is physically turned off, it can be turned on by phone app or any smart hub that it links to.

Yes, google assistant will know its current status (on/off), it supports IFTTT and voice control by google assistant phone app or the hub.

What frequency does the ZigBee ones run at? 2.4 GHz or 915 MHz?

Do they work with the Samsung Smartthings hub?

    • The Zigbee gadgets work on 2.4Ghz.

Yes, they work with Samsung Smartthings Hub.
