Advice Needed - Returning Item Using Provided Shipping Label. No Proof of Delivery

So recently I ordered a Ticwatch Pro from Mobvoi. After a couple weeks using it I was not too happy about it (slow, freeze, battery didn't last as long as they promised etc etc). So I decided to make use of their 30 day money back guarantee which they approved and they provided a paid return label with a tracking number. Destination of the parcel is Eastern Creek NSW. They promised money refunded when a tracking info has been received. I drop it to my local post office on the 26/6 thinking job done……..

I was wrong :(

Here's where I made the wrong assumption. I thought their tracking number is in the Australia Post system. Apparently the tracking number belongs to courier company called Landmark Global. And I'm guessing that place in Eastern Creek must be part of the logistic company for the courier company. So as far as their system is concerned, the last status on the parcel is "return label created".. and unless someone in their courier company scanned the parcel I do not have any proof that I have posted it back to them.

If the item really is lost.. do you think I would be covered by credit card protection? To me it seemed like I just have to be ready to lose almost $300 bucks on this :(

I know OzBargain folks has been the most expert in advice. So I can only hope..

On another note, if you ever want to return an item to a seller (Mobvoi or any other mobs) beware of this kind of catch. Had I known the risk, I would've purchased my own Australia Post tracking & insurance .

TLDR; Returning a watch. No proof of item being posted or arrived in their facility. Any chance of getting my money back?

  • purchase a registered track post for $3.50 at the counter

    • Would've done it had I known that the tracking number is only active once it reached the destination :/

  • That sucks.
Check if your credit card protection will cover it but I doubt it as it’s not a purchase (well only postage purchase)
It reads that you posted without insurance or registered and it’s got lost. It’s not that companies fault, (and seems you should have used a courier they had the number for).

You need to contact Australia Post and see what they can do, likely not much though. Do you have the receipt from Australia Post?
As Australia Post on Twitter what steps to take, they are pretty good answering.

    • I purchased the watch with credit card. I'll try call them tomorrow see if they would cover in this instance. Its just that I don't have any proof that I've sent it off for return

Btw I did post using their courier but the method they given me is to use a postage paid label and drop it off Australia Post. So before it gets to the courier it is still within Australia Post responsibility.. which I wasn't aware otherwise I would've bought a separate tracking post. And called Australia Post, nothing they can do about it :(

No receipts either because i didn't pay for the postage.

      • Did the postage paid label have a barcode on it for Australia Post to scan saying that it was lodged? Like when you return stuff to The Iconic

        • Its got a barcode but I didn't know at that time that the barcode is not recognised by Australia Post system.

  • +2

Did you get a lodgement receipt?

When did you drop it off?

    • Dropped it on 26/6. No lodgement receipt because it was reply paid stamp so I didnt pay anything except for the padded bag i use to pack em in. So it proved nothing except for proof of purchasing a padded bag :/

      • Have you got a lodgement receipt ? Or did you just give it to the people at the counter ?

        Have you called auspost ?

  • Damn, this return label stuff seems to be having rampant issues lately. I'm sure they're only in the minority, but there's a few too many stories of stuff going missing when being returned.

    • I never lost anything in post before. Only now, and it had to be a $280 item :( what a luck

  • I sent something back via a pre paid Aus post label. Glad it made it to the seller. Would not have been happy. Wouldn't have thought to get own insurance and registered post. Feel for you OP.

    • Yeah now i know the risk of prepaid label i would be more careful next time.

  • +1

Even with Prepaid label, you can still hand over the counter and ask them to scan it.

    • Damn didn't even check and I didn't know either. I bought a padded bag when I drop it off. They obviously scan the parcel but only for the purchase of the bag (at the time I just assumed they also scan for lodgement, i was wrong). So my receipt didn't show any lodgement detail :(
