Looking for a Good Quality (but Not Expensive!) Auto-Loading Driver/Screwdriver

I'm looking for a reaonably priced auto-loading bit driver/screwdriver (not battery powered). I'm sure I saw an advert or a web page recently where something like that was recommended, but I can't find it now.

I'm not completely sure about the auto-loading part, maybe I really just want something that is fully self-contained. I don't need a large number of bits, just a couple of sizes of flat and phillips head would do.

Can anyone make any suggestions? Thanks!

  • No suggestion except to say that compared to good quality traditional drivers I find them cumbersome to hold and use; I don't use mine at all except as a last resort.

Four standard drivers will occupy not much more space but be so much more useful. Keep them in a pouch or small box to approximate "fully self-contained."

  • All in ones are good for carried kits. Even though I'm not on the tools much these days I still carry a small basic tool kit in my pack everyday. I do agree full size drivers are much nicer to work with and do carry a full size #2 philips in that kit.

OP may like either the Wiha 26 in 1 or the Wera Kraftform Kompakt. Both very nice and handy for most things but like all interchangable bit drivers they'll have trouble getting to recessed screws.

    • Wiha 26 in 1

      $70 at Bunnings - ouch!

      Wera Kraftform Kompakt

$41 at Bunnings - still rather expensive.

Might be worth dropping in to see these two on the way home tonight anyway. Thanks.

  • I found this web page, which has some interesting observations and some recommendations, but the tools are unlikely to be available here:

  • Teng MDR915 or MDR908 could be what you're after. I have one of these at home (dunno which one) and it's fantastic
