  • What does refurbished mean for this device?

  • Looks the same as this one which is $136 new at JB HiFi. Although JB HiFi website says out of stock (not sure if you could pick up in store).

Refurbished means the unit was repaired and/or repackaged. It does NOT mean a new battery is in there (unless the repair was to fix the battery).

    Things to WATCH OUT:
    1. You DO NOT get the latest map guarantee with refurbished units.
    2. Once TomTom support found out your unit is a refurbished one (trust me, they know), you get really poor service (or virtually no service).
    3. NOTE THIS. TomTom software will offer you the latest firmware BUT it does not care if your old map is incompatible with the firmware - coz. it was designed for devices which will get latest map guarantee. So, before you upgrade, PLEASE make a complete BACKUP of your current TomTom Flash Drive content. There is a good chance that you need to rollback the upgrade manually (copy the content back) because the new firmware is not compatible with the old map included in the refurbished unit.

So, watch out. If you are comfortable to have outdated map on your TomTom (there are unofficial ways to update the map - BUT it needs a bit of an effort), then you could consider it… but the price isn't really that good.

  • seen brand new go for this price, dick smith has similar one for $130 XL one

Don't buy this anyway. Bought it 3 yrs ago when it first came out. I'd even feel bad selling it cos its such a piece of crap.

Poor reception + slow recalc = useless device

  • This model isnt 3 years old, its a current model. Anyway i saw this advertised last week @ $137 brand new at The Good Guys & JB.
