Leather Products but Not Shoes, Australian-Made, Please (for Gift)

Hi OzBargainers :),

I'm after for a gift and thinking about Australian leather products. But not shoes. My budget is 150 bucks.
I prefer a bag, but it is likely over my limit. So a wallet or a belt is good. Any other options?

It's also great if OzBargainers can name some quality Aussie leather brands with reasonable prices.

Thank you very much.
Cheers :D

    Gloves? Wallet?

U may be able to find bags on sale at oroton. (they come in different sizes so therefore may be able to find one in your price range) Try their outlet store

    • I have just done a google about Oroton. A good brand. Thanks mate :)

    Bellroy make nice wallets

    • I'm watching their website. Thanks :)

Try larger markets, places like Paddy's market or Parklea, if in Sydney. A guy in paddies used to make belts in front of you, cut it to size and attach the buckle you choose. Still got em.

    • Thanks. I'm at Brisbane.

      • Check out the Ekka - I'm still using the belt I got from a guy there a number of years ago.

Mind you you'll probably spend more getting there to buy the belt…

I would also look at local craft markets.

Have a browse of the Oroton outlet

This Oroton leather bag is $345 currently down to $138 - comes in black or chocolate. Delivery is $9.95, so fits into your budget. Have a look and see if it suits your purpose.

(The bigger one also looks nice, $495 down to $198, but a bit over the budget you set).

In addition to above items, there are leather wallets on sale too. Some items are nylon, so make sure to skip them.

    • I very much doubt Oroton leather goods are made in Australia.

      Thanks.
I like the big one. It is added to my wish list :)

      • Hey OP, westical could be right. Oroton is an iconic Aussie brand, but whether their goods are still made in Australia, I am not sure. My Oroton Kangaroo wallet, bought a while back, is made in Australia. It is durable, well-made and still in good condition.

If Aussie-made is important to you, check with Oroton first.

I've got a couple of these buckle belts. High quality, look great and are pretty cheap.

I also have this RM Williams belt in brown. Had it for 4 years and still looks amazing. Works with Jeans or Chinos.

    • Thanks. The Rm William signature looks great. I will go to Rm William and Oroton in Indooroopilly this week to have a look :)

      • I'll second his recommendation for the RM Williams. I just bought a similar (same?) belt new from them and am loving it. The leather is fairly stiff rather than a soft pliable type, fits in jeans and business slacks. Quality leather and the hardware is outstanding.

Is it for a man or a lady?

    • It's for a man :)

What makes everyone to assume leather goods bought in Australia are actually made in Australia ????

The OP suggested Aussie leather goods.
    As in made in Aussie.
    Or not?

Got my bag from these guys. I used to commute for about 2 years flying twice a week. Best bag ever. Always with me and never really worn out much the plastic borrow liner got cracked once.

I thought paying the amount was too much but the minister(ess) of finance decided it was a good investment and got it for a combined birthday Xmas present.

I cherish it and can’t recommend it enough.

I am going to get myself a day shoulder bag one time soon after a pay bonus.

      Well worth the investment imo.

How about something from Mon Purse? You can have it personalised with their initials too: https://theurge.com/en-au/men/search/leather?retailers=Mon+P…

  • Everything made in China even if it says "Designed in Australia"

    • I had a friend who’s factory job was to remove made in China and put on made in Australia.
