One day… I shall have one of these…

      • +4

wow even the knock off is $200… is there a knockoff of the knockoff?

        • +2

I got right into knock off lego for a while there so I can tell you that yes, there are tonnes.
The main and OG lego knockoff for star wars is Lepin (although they've been raided by police pretty hard since I stopped buying), after them, a whole field of knock offs started appearing with names like Lele.
Where this gets interesting is that sometimes the knockoff-knockoffs actually improve on the original knockoffs and have better quality. Some even argue certain models beat legit Lego. Fake lego also opens up the possibility of mass producing MOCs (fan made designs) which saves on thousands of dollars and hours sourcing each individual legit part.

The Chinese replica industry is truly shocking though. People never quite realise how skilled and widespread it is. I've even purchased Rolex fakes that are all but indistinguishable to the real thing for anyone but the most hardcore replica enthusiasts (typically genuine-only watch fans have no chance of spotting a fake, even locksmiths have a hard time after opening them up). There is a continual war between police/companies and the various replica factories through china. Because of this, the best replicas usually require a contact to a 'black market' dealer which carries added risk when you drop big bucks on an anonymous Whatsapp user haha

      • OK. Since you asked nicely.

      • +10

        Username checks out.

      • -1

Bring on the downvotes Lego nerds.

        Gladly.

Lepin's stock has dried up anyway, so keep up with the circumstances Sherlock.

        • +3

The knock offs will be worth more than Lego then.

          • @Frayin: ironic

          • +2

@Frayin: Yeah because the fake Rolex resale market is booming and everyone is clamouring to buy fake DVDs/Blu-Rays from Thailand and Bali.

            Sound logic. tips fake Fedora

It seems you're still having trouble grasping that a fake product and a genuine product are two very different markets that command different pricing, because the latter is generally speaking unreliable in terms of QC and consistency and the former isn't, on top of the fact that you have zero after-sales support or warranty with a fake (which is great news when you find you're missing dozens of pieces in your Lepin set).

Or do you also drink Chinese baby formula and live in a house wired by an unlicensed electrician?

            • @Gnostikos: It's got nothing to do with electricians or overseas baby formula. They're both made of plastic in the same country, likely in the same factories in the same provinces by the same people.

        • +1

Nah it hasn't, I'll show you where to order it right now if you like.

          • +1

@Buyingcrap: Yeah please, I'd like to buy one. All these Lego die hard fans are toxic.

            • @Frayin:

All these Lego die hard fans are toxic

but apparently everyone else is 'tards in the yard' ;)

      • It's a minimum of 250USD if you can even find it now.

    • these things are killing me.

i feel like this needs to cost about $600 tho for me to bite.

  • what the hell is an aluminium falcon?

    • +1

Millennium is short for multiple aluminum

  • Oh god.
    So tempted.

$875 for Lego that will just end up in a big bucket with all the other Lego my kids have.

    • +13

You are clearly not the target audience…

  • +2

Ive bought cheap copies in Hong Kong. Cannot tell the difference between the real thing and knock offs. Never had not even 1 piece missing either.

    • Find out the difference we’ll when trying to resell . Lepin closest match to Lego is Duplo both have no liquidity in the market place .

Besides Lepin being sheet quality .

      • +11

i don't think you buy a knockoff in order to sell it.

In other words ive never had a missing piece and couldn't be happier with all the ones ive purchased.

Can't believe theres so many angry people out that need to troll someone who's happy he saved almost $1000

        • -3

          never had a missing piece

Oh, you claimed the complete opposite in your previous message, with your double-negative.

That's good, then. I take back my condolences, sounds like a fair purchase.

    • -1

Never had not even 1 piece missing

So then they've always had at least 1 piece missing?

That's unfortunate, you have my condolences.

  • Says 192 Sold 76% . Be interesting if they can sell just under 50 more .

BTW I don’t believe the info too much retailers just restock again when gone .

Try Prime deal 70835 Rexeplorer . Just under $100 for nearly 4 KG of lego for kids bucket .

  • +5

Now I need Eleven to get this thing flying.

  • Code also brings the Saturn V down to $129.52 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LEGO-21309-Ideas-NASA-Apollo-Sat…

  • At that price I want a real one!

  • The Lego deals sure do bring all the 'tards to the yard. It's a like a magnet for the uninformed to mouth off with completely irrelevant nonsense.

  • @Lego Hobbyist, Is this Falcon that much better than the Kessel Run? ($149 at Big W)

    • +5

      For a child no
For a Lego manchild like myself yes

      • Building Legos was awesome as a kid, I remember receiving a container full of anything and everything..

I'm considering pulling the trigger here for Nostalgia and thinking to go big.

I will definitely have an issue storing it though =/

      • Well I was this close to signing it off when my partner was like..'where will be put it'. There's just no room at our place for something like that..

I've settled for the much smaller Kessel Run Falcon which we will hang from the ceiling :)

Completed Stage 1, completely forgot how much fun and satisfying Lego can be.

    • +3

This one is 14.9 kg in the box…..it’s 16+ for a safety reason 😂

    • They are in completely different ball parks!

I want this so much …. I think I might have to start a go fund me page for it

    • Just look at the pictures. The level of detail is totally different. Same as the Hogwarts Castle vs the Great Hall sets.

  • Can't replace the kiddies box with Fantastic Beasts 998 g was $8.10 about 2 weeks ago but up to $24 after discount now .

  • +1

Out of interest, what would the long term investment value of these be? Is it something likely to increase in value over a decent time span (>10 years).

    • +2

way less profitable than just getting a job at a consulting firm like EY

      • +1

ok what about the investment value compared to the investment vehicle required for a job working at a financial institution :P

Personally, as much as I like LEGO and Star Wars, I think society is in trouble if pieces of plastic are the sorts of things that are good widespread investment vehicles.
Better than people hogging property I guess but that's a rant for a different time lol.

Lego has caught on and is re-releasing sets as well as releasing new sets in much larger volumes than before.
Sets from a few years ago and older are still worth some but moving forward, with new sets, the market is purposefully saturated due to peoples recent increased interest in Lego, thanks to the movies and video games as well as Lego wanting a slice of the scalper market.

So in short, No, just stick to shares.

The old adage that Lego increases in value by 10% every year is slowly no longer applicable unless you get rare releases like the CNY.
BUT since they retail at low prices and availability is a matter of who you bribe in a retail store or how fast you can refresh a webpage and the competition of getting enough sets to make it worth it and then weighing up immediate scalping to those who missed out or hanging on and hoping that Lego doesn’t release more stock in the future, which happens every now and then with hyped up sets that sells out in a day and then appear on the scalping market only for Lego to release more batches.

          • @Mr Snrub: Great answer, thanks for the reply.

    • I think not good . Once Lego did re - released sets like one of the most famous Taj Mahal . Prices fell from 9k to like 1 k . Reissued set has no confidence and can be picked up for just over $300 ( RRP $499)
Popular Themes like Star Wars and Super Heroes will probably feel the brunt of it .

Saying that some themes at this point have no reissues and are going well still :)

Most will end up poor investments like I recently payed 75% of FV for 38 yrs of Stamps to 2016 . Only use is to use for postage . Too many Buggers hoarded them away think it would be a good investment .

      • Out of interest, what percentage of FV do you think would be a buy? I guess the focus should be on specialised rare issues.

  • after making the ucs super star destroyer, y wing & slave one, i have no room for the millenium falcon. its just too damn big.
