Edifier R1700BT Bookshelf Bluetooth Studio Speakers - $129 + Delivery ($0 with Kogan First) @ Kogan

160

I was keeping an eye on these on Amazon, but the Prime flash sale for $135.15 ended up being disappointing, so I decided to post this deal instead.

Kogan has had the same speakers for $129 for at least the past couple of days. They're an official Edifier supplier. They come with a manufacturer's warranty so it appears that you don't even have to deal with Kogan for any repairs or problems. Edifier thankfully has an Australian presence.

There's a great FAQ on the Edifier support page.

Delivery is free with a Kogan First membership or trial (update: the 14-day trial seems to be over now). Otherwise it's $11.99 (Melbourne), $19.99 (Brisbane), $28.99 (Perth), or $64.99 (far North WA - there is no Kogan First available there as far as I can tell).

Reviews are fairly good for these speakers:

Amazon AU reviews 5 stars - 2 decently written reviews
Google user reviews 4.7 stars - 97 reviewers
OzBargain reviews are in previous deals

  • Can you hook these us to a TV?

    • +2

Through analog (stereo RCA) yes, through digital (optical) no.

    • You can if all you want is stereo sound, but for your TV you'd probably find the Yamaha YAS-108B Soundbar better suited. It's still on the Prime Day sale for $169.

r1700bt for same price as regular price for r1280db.
    Good price I would say.

  • Do these need to be turned off when not in use? I have aktimate speakers which get quite hot at the back if left on. Sort of put me off bookshelf speakers.

    • +1

No, I leave mine powered on most of time and don't get hot at all. Great Speakers.

  • Get this or wait for a deal on Ozb favourite Logitech Z623?

    • What are you connecting them to? Comparing 2.0 to 2.1 is not a level playing field, suit different functions.

      • oh, just a laptop for casual music, gaming etc.

        • +2

Definitely, the Edifers for music unless you just want loads of bass.

    • Z623 are some of the worst sounding speakers imo. I hated listening to them and got rid of my set after 2 days.
The mid range frequencies just sound so thin and bland while those weak, tiny speakers scream horribly at you and the woofer just thunders noise under the desk as if it’s playing a different song entirely.

  • +3

I have these and a decent DAC & Headphone Amp combo and have been happy with the sound.

I have the Logitech Z623 hooked up to my projector and the Edifier R1700BT hooked up to my PCs (USB & HDMI Switch). I wouldn't switch them.
    - The Z623 has much more base and is good for movies, TV, etc.
    - The R1700BT sounds much nicer playing music and I prefer it when I occasionally game.

Why z623 left aside this season deals?

  • +1

How can we sign up for Kogan First trial?

    • +1

It's disappeared. At the time I posted Kogan had a 14-day free trial offer, but it appears to have been removed.

      • +1

Oh no, will check back again. Thanks for posting the deal.

        • +1

Thanks for alerting me to the problem. I've updated the deal.

@jc89 posted the Amazon deal half an hour ago. If you can't get Kogan First, then that deal is cheaper. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/471094
