What to Do if Got a Receipt That Have an Incorrect ABN (TRS Rejected Receipt)

Try to get GST refund from TRS but got rejected due to the ABN on the receipt is not registered for GST.

Since the receipt clearly shows GST amount, I assume it is just due to an incorrect ABN used on the receipt. What should I do? Go back to the shop?

    Yes.

Ask the shop to reprint it? Do a reverse lookup on the ABN and the store and see what the issue is. If it's missing a number or flipped a couple around, no big deal. If it is completely different then I'd wonder about the shop you bought from.

    • This, look up the ABN, if it matches the business and their receipts are showing GST, then I'd be questioning the store. More than likely if they're doing something dodgy they will just give you back the GST amount.

Depending on what the item is the only legitimate reason I can see this happening is they are below the GST threshold and set up their system wrong.

Relevant information to provide, if you actually desire a serious answer, is the ABN on the receipt.

Good luck getting your GST back though.
