    Not very fond of VentraIP.

I had with them in excess of 150 domains. All sorts of problems which were dealt with. What pissed me off the most was the fact that they charge you for moving domains out of there and if they hike the price, bad luck, they don't look after you.

They don't look at your feedback.

    Hosting not cheap either.

    • Thank you .. didn't knew that charge for port-outs

      • Yeah, they are not very transparent. Search information here https://ventraip.com.au/support/ you can't find much. Everything is about incoming domains or transfers to other VentraIP accounts.

This F.A.Q says it https://vip.ventraip.com.au/support/support-centre/domain-na… Unfortunately you can't see it unless you have an account.

        From there:
        […]
"This will generate a $14.95 invoice in your account. Once paid, we will automatically initiate the COR from our end.[…]

Hey, I work as part of the VentraIP Technical Administrator staff, transferring domains away doesn’t involve any fee’s, the only fee’s involved are bringing new domains in that require a renewal on transfers. e.g. Domains like .com.au domains are free to transfer in while .com domains need to be renewed.

You can see a list of pricing here: https://ventraip.com.au/domain-names/transfer/

CoR (Change of Registrant) is used when the domain is sold/passed between businesses and the ABN needs to be updated to the new business that acquired the domain, The fee involves resetting the domains active days remaining to 365 days and updating the domain’s ABN, this is because the domain is dropped and re-registered with the new details, this isn’t used to transfer the domain between registrar’s but to update the domain details when the domain is sold/passed to a new holder to avoid issues with who is the rightful owner.

Transferring domains doesn’t involve any cost, you’ll be able to find the domain password inside the domain management page and use that to transfer the domain to any other provider.

If you have any more questions, I'd gladly answer them. :)

          • @NicholasCiech: You linked to instructions to transfer domains IN to ventraip, which makes you look dodgy as hell.

Please provide the text of the page @BrokenTissue linked to that includes the text “generate a $14.95 invoice”

            • @DanielBaird: The full page reads:

"What are the steps involved in completing an AU domain Change of Registrant (COR)?
              Posted Monday April 28th 2014
A Change of Registrant (COR) is required in order to change the legal owner of an AU domain name, that is, the ABN/ACN/RBN/other eligibility type listed on the domain Whois.

To initiate a COR simply follow these steps:

              Login to your VIPControl account.

Click the My Services option on the top-left of the account > Domains from the menu below

Hit the Manage button for the domain name that you wish to initiate the COR for

Select the Change of Registrant option under Admin on the left-hand side > Initiate Change or Registrant button

Simply follow the prompts to finalise the process

This will generate a $14.95 invoice in your account. Once paid, we will automatically initiate the COR from our end.

From here, an email will be sent to the current domain registrant contact to approve. Once that form is completed the gaining registrant will receive an email to enter their details. Following this, we will verify that new details are correct and then push it through for completion.

NOTE: If you simply wish to update your domain name contacts (Not change the ABN) then you do not need to complete a Change of Registrant process."

This process isn't used when transferring the domain between different registrar's but updating the registrant information on the domain itself when updating the owner.

If you wanted to transfer a domain away from VentraIP, you would need to go into My Services >> Domains >> Manage >> EPP Password, you'll be able to find the domain password here and use that to transfer to any other registrar without any fee's involved.

          • @NicholasCiech: I transferred domains to NameCheap and NetOrigin. This happened some years ago. I don't have the invoices, unfortunately (the company was sold) but I can tell you I have paid for it.

The reason I left VentraIP and moved my business elsewhere is they hiked the prices and bumped each of my invoices in excess of $50. When I complained and showed them the vast amount of domains and hosting packages purchased, including reseller, they refused to do anything and said to send them feedback. I did no one ever got back to me.

I have also had to request a refund for the expired domains. Looking now through the emails, I have opened in excess of 50 support tickets. I even a complaint about the number of support tickets I need to open.

I have worked with at least a dozen hosting providers. After Arvixe, VentraIP was definitely the worst.

            Examples:
[…] "we can get those refunded for you, but you'll just need to submit a cancellation request for each of them.
[…] we can only accept cancellation requests lodged through VIPControl.[…]

            • @[Deactivated]: Hey, if you're able to find any invoices i'll be able to look into this for you, feel free to PM me.

You can also contact our customer care team directly here: [email protected]

            • @[Deactivated]: More Examples from their support and some of my rants:

** Requesting refunds** for almost all domains as they automatically renew even if the renew request was off.

[…] "we can get those refunded for you, but you'll just need to submit a cancellation request for each of them.

[…] we can only accept cancellation requests lodged through VIPControl.[…]

One of my tickets for the price hike (60% increase).

              Me:

"[…]offer a similar code for clients that have been with your business for this long and with so many active services.

Or, at least, come up with a reason to stay and purchase services from VentraIP in a world market where Cloudflare is available and the market is overflowing with exactly the same services."

              Reply from VentraIP:

              "[…]
We definitely recognize that you are one of our long standing customers and hope that you will give this new product line a try to see just how great of value it is.

By purchasing locally you are also helping support jobs here in Australia also unlike the competitor mentioned, Which at the end of the day is great for all involved.

If you have feedback you wish to provide directly to management you are certainly welcome to do so by reaching out at [email protected].
              […]"

              Me:
              "[…]

Unfortunately, as it stands, I will be your client no more.[…]

              I'm happy to pay 10 - 15% extra for local products, but 60% that's just stupid.[…]

[…]but if this is the way, I will happily move on."

              • @[Deactivated]: I can't believe they use

"By purchasing locally you are also helping support jobs here in Australia also unlike the competitor mentioned, Which at the end of the day is great for all involved."

as the reason for their customers to accept a 60% price hike…

Normally people pay MUCH higher price for better service/feature, not because it is local…

Ventra IP is the worst Domain registrar I've ever used.

I bought a .uk domain when they had their promotion on Queen's birthday.

When I was submitting my order, there were some system issues and my payment failed.

Then I received a invoice asking me to complete the payment. Guess what, I could not log in to their system any more because their system could not find any registered account under my email (but interestingly their system was able to send me the invoice)

I complained on their Facebook page, no one ever care to respond.

Here is the screen shot I took at the time as a proof that I did receive the invoice and got the absurd no account found error.

Stay away from them, Namesilo, PorkBun, Namecheap, even the dreadful GoDaddy is better than Ventra IP IMO

That sounds like your order got marked as fraud which wouldn't leave your VIPControl in a state where you're able to login to it. Did you ever contact us about this?

      • -1

I did called(See below picture of the phone log.) but I can't remember whom I spoke with. Maybe I did not get to anyone because it was a public holiday although your website says [24/7 Australian Sales & Support]

        https://pasteboard.co/IoWsYWC.jpg

I think that's why I went to your Facebook page but did not get any reply either.

Anyways, I wouldn't spend too much time for something worth less than a dollar especially your company did not seem to care if I completed the order or not.

        • +1

Sorry to hear that. I'll pass this onto the team because you certainly should have been answered on the phone (we are 24/7 with the team all based in Melbourne), if not via social media at the very least. Was it a message on Facebook or a comment?

@ventraip: Should've would've & could've. I found crazy domains to be better than you guys. Downvoting this deal so fellow ozbargainers see the downvote & try to see why in comments.
