  • How does this compare to the Anker Powerline II
    https://www.anker.com/products/variant/anker-powerline-ii-us…

    • +1

The one you linked to is a USB-A to USB-C cable

I believe their C to C 100W 5A cable is rated for USB 2.0 speeds only. Not sure if they've updated their product range recently but that was the case a few months ago

Edit: they do have a USB 3.1 Gen2 speed cable but only 3 feet in length. The longer cable (6ft?) is rated at only USB 2.0

    • The 2m variant is much longer than most 100W USB-C to USB-C, USB 3.1G2 spec'd cables out there. I purchased a similar 2m cable a few months ago and it's been working fine.

I haven't found a large brand (e.g. Anker/Belkin) that's making a cable of that length and spec yet, but I'd assume Anker's QC and overall support would be better than this one.

      • Yep and the cables for Anker and Belkin are USB-IF certified

I've seen a few cheap high spec cables on Amazon claiming USB-IF but no evidence that is actually the case

        • I need a 2m USB-C to USB-C cable with 100W and USB3.1g2 spec, and would pay a premium for a USB-IF certified cable… makes me wonder if the reason why Anker & Belkin's longer cables being USB 2.0 spec are a hardware limitation, similar to Thunderbolt 3 having to be active past a certain length.

          • @northshore: I made the same observation a while back. After quickly researching this further I can see the USB Power Delivery 2.0 specifications don't allow for 2m long Gen2 cables.

"Cable length should be ≤2 m for Gen 1 or ≤1 m for Gen 2"

@batrarobin I noticed the cable is described as USB-IF certified but I'm not able to see any certification for it on the https://usb.org/products website

What company name should I be looking for because nothing is listed under MDT?

  • Can the OP please respond to the above questions and concerns?

IMO the product's claim to USB-IF compliance should be removed because it may be considered false/misleading advertising

    • hey mate, I am checking with the Rep.

Hey mate, just received the following response from the Rep and they are fixing the listing description on Amazon shortly. Thanks for bringing this up to our attention.

We've reviewed the comment and consulted our product supplier. Our cables do have the E-mark chip but have not sought the USB-IF certification as such. The cables however have the same parameters/function as USB-IF ones.

We apologise that we were unaware of this before and will update the description of listing later today.

Sorry for the confusion this might have caused.

The cables however have the same parameters/function as USB-IF ones.

Without independent testing (like what USB-IF provide), there's no way for consumers to verify that claim. Off-spec USB-C cables have in rare cases fried hardware, so I'd personally hesitate using this cable with any hardware I care about, especially given the supplier was apparently happy to make misleading claims about USB-IF certification in the first place.

This is directed at your supplier @batrarobin, not having a go at you.
