Malwarebytes Lifetime Licenses + CreativeMark + Cleverbridge - How Bad Support Works

Just a heads up for anyone going through Malwarebytes + CreativeMarks.

DON'T EVER BUY FROM CREATIVEMARKS!!!!!

1) Bought a lifetime Malwarebytes license from CreativeMarks deal on OzBargain
2) Stopped working last month
3) Tried to go to CreativeMarks > No success with some rude responses
4) Went to Malwarebytes > "Your license is illegal > go back to retailer"
5) Lodged BBB complaint (American ACCC - without the powers of enforcement)

Response from CreativeMarks

Lifetime is the lifetime of the original product - and we have no control over this. Same with Windows and the support which ends eventually.

You can’t expect Malwarebytes to provide you with free updates for you life for a one-off discounted price paid four years ago. Those old lifetime codes weren’t some kind of Willy Wonka golden ticket.

People who bought them are acting as if they spend $1000 and are outraged they are now discontinued, whilst everyone else is paying Malwarebytes $40/year - as should be for security software.

  • Malwarebytes stopped selling lifetime licenses in 2014. Did you purchase before that date? If so you can usually get MB support to honour it if you have the original invoice and the seller was an authorised reseller.

If you purchased after 2014 and/or they're not an authorised reseller then Malwarebytes will say exactly what they said to you and possibly quote their disclaimer.

Edit: Here is discussion of the exact same reseller 3 years ago

  • Yep, read that discussion ~

Bought in 2015 off an OzB deal > so falls into the "no support" category.

Was more of a PSA - CreativeMarks are scammers ~

I'll just leave it to BBB (if something comes out of it)

  • Lodged BBB complaint (American ACCC)

Just an FYI - the BBB is a private company in no way shape or form analogous to the ACCC. It's closer to Yelp than it is to the ACCC, though businesses do care about it.

    • +1

Yea ~ there are not an enforcement body

But only thing I could find in the States.

  • Managed to get a resolution out of BBB + Cleverbridge

    • Cleverbridge contacted Malwarebytes and I got a new license.

The retailer CreativeMark was useless and were rude AF

  • Leave Malwarebytes. Now, Kaspersky, Avira and Eset suites have got just as good malware protection. It is too expensive to use Malwarebytes premium now. No real lift-time licenses exist. The old ones with leaked passwords are being sold and resold by many. It is no different to spotify, netflix, hulu accounts that appear on ebay for fraction of the price. They stop working eventually.

By the way, trend micro, webroot and iolo provide really good detection for very little. Unlike Norton, which is heavy and not so much better charging us 9.99 per month.

If we as consumers have to subscribe to all these services, we would be paying hundreds per month. It adds up pretty quick (2-3 streaming services + antiviruses + cloud storage + music streaming + news subscription + magazine subscription + ms office subscription etc etc). Still to the vendors who provide non-subscription services(lifetime or a reasonably priced annual /biennial packages)
