Fitness First Membership Card

Hi guys, I just joined fitness first passport yesterday, I received my key card on the spot. Weird thing is, the card is black on both sides and doesn't have anything on it. Not my name, photo (even though they took a photo of me) or anything else, pure black on both side.

I saw other people with normal looking membership card in that gym, checked with the front counter guy, and he said that's what you get now.

Just wondering if its normal, seems a bit fishy there.

  • here's a hint.. ASK FITNESS FIRST

    • I did, the counter guy said that's what you get, but everyone else has different kind of key card. Just wanna make sure there is nothing fishy about it.

    • Ask fitness first first?

  • Did you sign up at an actual Fitness First branch? I can't imagine that'd be dodgy.

And yeah - everything is already linked to your account which is coded to the card - even the old cards, when you swipe I'm sure your face/account info pops up at the counter.

    Edit:

    From their facebook:

Seems like all black is one of their themes?

    • it doesn't even has fitness on my card. Its just all black on both side, nothing printed on it.

  • Do you mean you signed up for Fitness First or used Fitness Passport to sign up to Fitness First, they're 2 different things.

    • I signed up at the fitness first club, on the passport level.

      • I see, i'd say it's fine then, i am a member of fitness passport, which gives access to many gyms, sometimes when you sign up to a certain gym with fitness passport they give you a different pass compared to normal members.

Yeah, that's normal. The new FF cards are all black.

  • Black card = Rich person.

just run with it…….no pun intended.

  • If they've said that's what you get, then that's probably what you get.

Perhaps they've changed vendors for how they get their RFID cards (or whatever tech they're using for the door scanning). When you scan in, I believe they generally get a popup on their screen (or the Security teams screen) with your details and photo they have on file to ensure it's the right person scanning in with the right card.

I go to Anytime Fitness and it's a tiny little keyfob that has no branding on it, they did however provide a lanyard that has AF branding on it.

As long as the card scans you into the gym then I wouldn't be worried about it.

thank you! I feel better now.

  • Look man no offense meant by this comment but did you think about it for two seconds before jumping to something fishy?

What could possibly be the scam here? You were sold a service, it works, it was confirmed by the staff at the store to be correct, what's the issue? What is the long con that could possibly be happening here?

    • Maybe I ought to give more info, sorry.

The guy whom signed me up said he is giving me an exceptional discount, and asked me not to tell anyone, and then he said if I decide to go to another fitness first club, I will have to tell him first otherwise it won't work with other clubs. I thought that's the norm, but some friend told me he can go any club without inform anyone about it. Also there is no name appeared when I scan my card to entry. I saw other people's name on the screen when they scan it.

      • What are you paying for your membership?

        • the retail price is about $26/W on their flyer. I am paying now $16/W.

          • @illuSion: $16 per week is fairly a fairly standard rate for a gym, I pay around $14/mth for my membership and that's for a facility that has all the normal exercise equipment you'd expect as well as a wet area (Pool, Spa, Steam, Sauna).

          • @illuSion: I pay $16/week as well. They hand this rate out every now and then, usually on the friends and family deal which they run a few times a year.

          • @illuSion: Yes, that's one of the standard rates for FF, so I don't think anything dodgy is going on.
