  • What's the difference between these car washes? Is there a winner or would you use one over the other?

I've only ever used the Wash and Wax which I've been happy with.

    • +3

NXT Generation and Soft Gel are their new synthetic lineup, but honestly Gold Class and Wash and Wax are the go to for car washes. I personally like Gold Class because it foams up nicely, and don't need the "wax" part of Wash and Wax.

      • +1

I always stock up on gold class. Great for hand wash and even good for foam cannons. Versatile and always get a great wash from it

      • I'm using Gold Class at the moment but haven't tried the Ultimate Wash and Wax. How would you compare the results of the wash disregarding cost? Not sure if I should stick with GC or try UWW :)

      • NXT Generation and Soft Gel are their new synthetic lineup

Eh? The Soft Wash Gel has been around for yonks, over 15 years at least.

        • Correct. I've been using Soft Wash since around 2001. The price is amazing, though - usually the little 385ml bottles are $14.99. This is 5 times the size for the same price!

  • I've been thinking about getting the Wash and Wax but I've always preferred to just use a dedicated wax. But if it's something that could extend the time between waxing then it might be a decent buy

I'm just generally skeptical about wash and waxes. Any first hand reviews?

    • +1

The wash and wax is a great product, always impressed at the cleaning, shine and protection. Good idea to follow up with a spray on sealant like Autoglym Polar Seal or Bowdens Own Happy Ending.

      • Yeah I'm thinking I should get a more regular use sealant. I use Ultimate Fast Finish but that's not something you use after every wash so perhaps I should get one for after regular wash

        • The ultimate fast finish is really good stuff too, bought two packs in that amazing OzB deal and wish I got more. The polar seal/HE is better though i'd say, much longer lasting and quicker to apply.

          • @nubzy: Me too! I'll look out for the next time Polar Seal and HE is on sale. What's the equivalent Meguiars regular sealant?

            • @phxsun: I don't think they do a lance based sealant. Their Hybrid Ceramic would be the equivalent but it's spray bottle based, so more like Wet Dreams. Not sure if SCA stock it either, can't find it on their website but Repco and Autobarn have it.

              • @whitelie: Oh i was thinking the Polar seal and HE were bottle spray products. I prefer to use the bottle spray sealant anyway since it gives me another opportunity to remove any water spots I may have missed in the drying phase.

I guess Meguairs does have a bunch of Quick/Spary waxes and NXT sealants. Maybe I'll give them a go since it's on sale.

                • @phxsun: These sealants are a spray on, hose off to activate type thing. Then you can flood the panel and dry. They're not like a spray wax, quick detailer etc. They offer a much more durable level of protection.

Highly recommend Mother's CMX. I have it on my car for 3 months still repels water

      • Wash and wax any good with foam cannon? Waxing large cars takes too much effort.

        • Never used it with a cannon personally but I wouldn't bother, the 'wax' property would be wasted and you're paying more for 500ml less product vs gold class.

        • Yes works brilliantly with a foam cannon. I have the Bowdens Foam Cannon.

    • +2

Highly recommend it personally - think of it more in terms of a wax 'topper' than something to replace wax. I also use a sealant but I notice this gives a bit more 'oompf' for 3-4 days after a wash and no extra quick detailer product applied.

If you've ever used Bowden's Nanolicious its the same effect.

  • Nice.

  • Great deal, have used this for years on my everyday Outlander and she scrubs up very nicely!

  • I actually just purchased the spray foam kit they had on sale earlier this morning, joined their Club Plus membership program to get the $10 of credit, but it's not applying to checkout for this item, which I actually need lol. Is the $10 credit not eligible with sale items?

    • same, going to try instore later

  • A noob question, how much of it do you need to give your car a good bath?

    • +2

i have it and the instructions on the back said like a cup or two. problem is said cup is not included lol

      • +8

Cup? That's one way to use it up fast

    • +3

Not much, maybe a cap or 2

    • Usually just a cap or two is enough for your wash bucket - that's the cap from the bottle itself (or a little squiz from the smaller bottles).
I tend to put a little extra for the snow job, just cuz I like snow!

  • Online only?

    • You can do click & collect ready in 30mins :)

    • Can be bought instore. Bought one yesterday on sale price :)

  • Thanks. Got the Ultimate Compound, Polish and Sealant to go with the DA Polisher from the previous Supercheap deal.

  • Anyone else got Always Dry ceramic coating on the car? Thinking of doing it results seem pretty mint

    • I used the meguiars hybrid ceramic spray on my car after washing it 2 weeks ago…. I kid you not, it looks just as shiny and clean. Being a darker color, within 2 weeks all road grime, rain sports would show but not since applying the ceramic coat.

Thanks STI Lover. Reckon you could post a picture of your STI? Quite interested, you probably have good pics of your car as you know your car detailing stuff pretty well.

Also do you get your information from YouTube or subreddits or something? Thanks.

    Regards,
    H

      Overall body shot: https://imgur.com/drcnQrL
Just did an engine detail shot: https://imgur.com/wVqGDyT

On a more serious note though, definitely, YouTube is helpful. AmmoNYC explains a lot of detailing theory that I find interesting but he does tend go overboard.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AutoDetailing/ has some pretty good information too.

No glove, no love, STI LOVER 😂😂

      • +1

Ha ha ! Nice model. What Subaru do you drive? I am considering purchasing an STI as my next car but the choices are so hard. Any personal preferences?

Thank you for the information as well. I will check it out.

        • +1

2018 WRX Premium FA20 here :D What rexy are you looking to get?

  • Upvoted because I drive STI :)

  • Do you know if Gold Class has an expiration date? I have one bottle for quite sometime and it has become like gel.

    • +1

Ive got a bottle that I bought 2-3 years ago and it's same as when I bought it except that it has lost some of the strength which is to be expected. Dont leave it in a place where it can get hot as that will break it down quicker.

    • Add some water?

  • anyone with ceramic coating applied, able to recommend this stuff to wash your car?

    • +1

      Yes no worries at all

  • Costco offers the twin pack for about 37 (when on special). So good price.

The Gold Class Car Wash is really good to use for traditional two bucket hand wash, but not good to be used as snowfoam base as it does not generate enough foam like other specially formulated.

Personally I like the Car Care Product's Mint (cherry flavoured) snow foam.

I have never washed my 12 years old car except cleaning the windscreen windows, that's it.
    True OzBargain…
But do get good stuffs for the engine

    • 12 years wow… that's a long time

      • The car is 12yo. The user might’ve had it a week 😬

    • A true OzBargainer would wash it so the paint doesnt get damaged and so it retains more resale value. Hand in your OzB licence mate.

Hi STI Lover can you please reply to my comment. I really need help buying a Subaru and I am looking for all the information from people who know their stuff about Subaru’s well. Can you please give me a recommendation. I am thinking of either a new WRX STI or one of the older models such as the one in baby driver. Which one would you prefer? It’s a really hard and difficult choice so I’m quite conflicted.

Would really appreciate your input as it would help me decide which car to get. Really grateful if you could help out.

    Regards,
    H

    • Hey,

You can't go wrong with any STI really - they're just great cars. Engines are a bit dated but c'mon; the boxer engine is incredibly well designed.

The battle of old vs new - I personally always fall for the old (think up to 2007) boy racer WRX (Hawkeye, Bugeye, Blobeye).

However, saying that, they do get thrashed. A lot. Incredibly difficult to find one without issues, so I would probably recommend getting a newer one.

(I know, I'm presenting conflicting opinions, telling you to buy the newer one even though I would jump on an old one in a heartbeat, but that's because I love the car so much and kinda irrationally put the financial burden it would cause as a minor factor in my decision)

      • +1

Oh right. Thank you for the information. I am leaning more towards the new one. Wouldn't want to deal with a lot of issues but I do really like the body kit options and the aesthetics of the old ones!

  • +2

Hey, you have 100+ upvotes for your first post! That's really cool! Congrats man, you must be really happy.

    • Hey, cheers matey. Over the moon at the love and support from the community. How's the N Line treating you? - I've heard they're quite zippy, kind of like a Suzuki Swift. You done any mods to your baby?

  • Still waiting for delivery. Ordered through ebay store :(
