Installed Samsung SATA III 6GB/s but Samsung Magician Says 3GB/s

Thanks to 2 guys from another thread they helped me buy an ssd and set it up in a caddy in the CD place.

Thankfully the process went easily but now when i run samsung magician, in the interface, it says sata 3 is avilable but says under "sata 3gb/s" not 6gb/s? Anything i need to do or i did wrong? Image refrence below.

The reason why you're getting 3Gb/s is because it's SATA 2 where the caddy is rather than 6Gb/s found in SATA 3. This is quite common for DVD drives in a lot of laptops, but isn't a major issue as the SSD will still be fast.

What's the brand/model of the laptop?

    • oh ok, its an Asus G550JK. Maybe i well switch it with the HDD then, I believe the HDD is a 2.5 as well.

Yeah seems to be SATA 2 for the DVD drive. Very roughly for seq. read/write on SATA 2 expect around 200-300Mb/s and around 500Mb/s with SATA 3. Quite a big difference but still better than a traditional HDD.

Yes, install the SSD in the main HDD bay and install the HDD in the caddy - SATA 2 is more than adequate for spinning rust.

        • Thank You, as of this moment i have succesfully done just that and now the speed went up from 264 to 520.
