Nothing special whatsoever about these prices I’m afraid

  • Thanks op, just bought an iPad that was at a really good price.

This has been running for at least 1 month. Didn't think this is considered a bargain.

They need to be refurbed by Apple, not EB.

All these devices are quite dated, and their batteries would be half dead already. Apple replaces the batteries as part of the refurb. EB doesn't.

  • Recently got one through Catch of the day. The refurbed iPhones on catch come with a 12 month Apple Warranty, havn't tested this yet but I hope its got some weight behind it. Not sure if the devices on catch have a new battery or not? Pricing @Catch was cheaper than EB even with the current discount. EDIT: Typo

    • Be interesting to see what the battery health percentage was on yours mate !

      • How can you tell ?

        • +1

Open the Settings app on the iPhone.
          Choose “Battery”
          Tap on “Battery Health”
At the Battery Health screen, you will see two relevant indicators of battery health: “Maximum Capacity” and “Peak Performance Capability”

          • @solidussnake: Results are:
Maximum capacity it 99% and is currently supporting normal peak performance.
For anyone interested in what this means check here -> Apple support battery info

To me it sounds like it is a pretty good battery

@javajo: Yeah sounds like it was replaced, pretty good deal from catch too !

  • I am finding for IPAD, EB Refurb does offer good to reasonable price.

Eg: IPAD PRO 9.7" (obviously 1st gen) for $414 at 128gb. (Buy Gift card from Suncorp Benefit, about 8% disc)

However, this IPAD cannot be registered for Apple Care so I would suggest using RACV Single Item insurance for $40 per annum if it effed up.

    • how does RACV Single Item insurance work?

      • +1

        https://www.racv.com.au/in-your-home/insurance/single-item-i…

        Click "Tablet" towards the bottom
        Enter the Suburb (not postcode)
Then enter the replacement value plus optional Accidental and/or Theft
Then enter Brand Model and Serial Number

        Get the quote.

It's quite handy to circumvent AppleCare.

Maybe if you do it instore you might get Bronze discount

I got a refurb iPad mini 2 from EB early 2018.

Faulty charging port, which I felt was "less than awesome", Apple wouldn't touch it and EB's store staff and customer support team argued with me and refused to deal with it under warranty or consumer Law.

    It's now an expensive paperweight.

Sure, the prices are okay but unless your experience differs to mine, you're on your own after purchase.

Apple also told me the iPad originated from India, which wasn't really communicated by EB prior to sale which was odd. Really makes me wary as there's no telling what you'll end up with.

Did you put in a claim with ebay ?

      • +1

Huh? What do ebay have to do with this post?

    • 2 things. if you bought it online you could have returned it in store once you know the charging port is faulty.

The thing is the item would have been unfit for purpose and a non merchandisable product as you said, this is now a paper weight.

      You should have pursued it.

Secondly, barring this you could go for a chargeback.

The only exception if EB did tell you the condition of this item beforehand and u went for it.
