    best chip (chilli).

Aldi's are pretty good. From memory, they're spicier than Kettle. Are they tastier? My family is divided. But if you care about numbing your tongue, Aldi's chips are the way to go.

      • +1

I found kettle to be spicier

        • I just tried the Aldi's ones (Blackstone) are they are a pretty close match. My Kettle chilli chips seem to be a hit or miss sometimes. I find when they are on sale, they're closer to their expiry and may loose some of their flavour when I open it a few months down the road.

          • @jonow83: Yeah it's not a huge difference.

Did you find the aldi ones to have slightly less crunch?

    • +3

These are a bit too salty.

The sour cream and chilli ones are more balanced.

      • +4

Okay… but the sour cream and chill have MORE sodium.
        427mg vs 501mg.

        • +1

Plenty of things have more sodium but taste less “salty”. It’s all how the flavours complement each other.

These Chilli chips taste like salt and chilli, and that’s it. I like my food spicy, so the chilli isn’t particularly hard-hitting. The salt dominates.

The sour cream and chilli ones have creaminess, spiciness and saltiness all in balance. No one aspect dominates. They don’t taste that spicy, nor that salty, nothing is in your face, because there’s more going on than just salt and chilli.

    • I think the ALDI and kettle are neck and neck. They both have their own flavour nuances.

  • Did they change the recipe for the chips to make them healthier?

    • I hope not but I suspect the oil may have changed over the years. No evidence on my part to back that up

  • Sold out in Woolworths Cannington - Sweet Chilli flavor

Definitely best flavoured chips out there.

Must be a slow bargain day if this made it to front page

    • +5

OP and up voters have no clue this is a BS RRP $4.50 rotating between all the major retailers making out 50% off$2.25 is really a great price .

They do it because these people think it a great price and stock up when really it should be there everyday price .

      • +2

No way is a 175g bag of chips - any chips - worth $4.50.

  • +2

Aldi Blackstone Chilli are the best for this kind of chilli though recently ain't as much spice on them..

    • Do you remember how much?

      • +1

I think is $2.29 give or take maybe lower

      • +3

$2.29 but also a 200g bag. The Kettle are 175g prices vary. I think red rock is only 160g or so, most expensive of all but more flavour.
I dont mind the Aldi chips and buy them when generally shopping so I dont have to trawl supermarket catalogs for specials, occasionally buy the others.

        At $2.29/200g they're quite reasonable.

  • +1

The Sweet Potato ones are amazing, pity they're not also 1/2 price.

  • +1

This is also at my local IGA and other independent. All flavours.

  • +2

I reckon somebody should make a thread about favorite chip flavours. Would be interesting.

    • +8

For me, it's the Intel i5

      • +3

Do they taste a bit like sand?

  • Time to stock up…

  • +2

…wish theyd bring back herb & spice flavour!

  • This is great if you love your chilli but it has quite a lot of punch.

I prefer the red rock sweet chilli + sour cream, more subtle chilli but still bags of flavour. Road tested them against Aldi Blackstone sweet chilli and the red rocks were much better.

    • It had more punch two decades ago. Not so much these days

  • +6

These are so bad, gone in 1 sitting, 1 serve

    • Just can't stop

I love these dipped in Greek yoghurt. Woolies brand.

  • 175g…getting lower and lower each year. But at least it will do lower harm to my health.

    • +1

Yep, inflation :( Used to be 200g, gradually decrease in size. Price also used to be $4, $2 when half-priced.

    • +1

Exactly 175g bags are basically a single serve now :)

      • we usually share half a bag for two people and keep the other half for next day or whatever.

  • +2

These chilli chips are legitimately my favorite chip. And I love chips, but before these, I considered all chips, aside from the odd dodgy one more or less the same, Smiths is nice, Lays is nice, all the same. But holy shit, these chilli chipps are something else.

  • +1

IGA also has them for $2.25 this week.

  • +3

These chips are the reason why I never see my abs.

    • Negative. Ate this chips. Can see abs.

  • +1

I am constantly disappointed in Australian chip flavors After living in Japan. They have some amazing (and some downright weird) flavors. Wasabi and Beef flavor is to die for!

  • These used to be a lot spicier, but they took them off the shelf a few years back because too many people complained about Chili Chips being too hot.

They brought them back with less kick. Still the best Chili chips out there though.

    • there was a period where they just downright sucked. it became very peppery and not chilli. the new chilli and jalepeno is like somewhere between the original chilli and the pepper one imo. agreed its still the best one out there for chippiness and spice

    • +7

Wait, so these idiots buy “CHILLI” chips and complain it’s too hot. Did they read the freakin packet!!! They were better when hot. Too many soft people winging, smh.

  • +1

Tell me I'm no the only one who always get mouth ulcers from cut from kettle chips.. They're almost too crunchy.. Still taste good though

    • +1

sure it's not just from a bad diet? ;)

      • Nah mate, usually only after eating Kettle or Red Rock..Smith seems to be ok.

  • $1 at Moorooka 7-eleven clearance shelf next to the counter !

    • +1

      175g?

      • +1

Yes, believe expiry date is 12/19

  • +1

    These use to be spicier.

There was a period when Kettle removed Chilli chips from their range, those were some dark days.
