Looking for the cheapest electricity provider for a three bedroom house at Hampton park, VIC.

I’d be happy if someone has got a referral code too which would save me a few bucks!

    check here -> https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au
    Its legal.

  • I'm yet to find a cheaper provider in VIC than Tango https://www.tangoenergy.com/

Currently on 16.23c/kWh and 85c/day supply fee (exGST). 2 year no price increase guarantee when I signed up.

If anyone is on cheaper, let me know!

    • Takes 2 to tango

    • I agree that Tango appears to be the cheapest in VIC. However they have next to no customer service and appear to be a very basic operation. No doubt they'll either jack up their prices, go broke or get bought out by another mob in 12-24 months time.

      • Correct. Budget airline.

But no issues from me so far, and if they price jack then I move to the next lowest i can find. IN terms of customer service, they were easy to sign up with and I added a direct debit easily. They email me my bills. That's all I need from my electricity provider.

And with their 2 year price guarantee I have another 15 months on this rate at least.

        • Agreed.

Fingers crossed that there's no meter read/billing issues. Otherwise it's a painful ride.

          • @Typical16-bitEnjoyer: I had major issues with the Sumo price jacking a few months ago. After a honeymoon rate they jacked by 70% on me after 2 months, whilst still advertising the cheaper rate I signed up on. Reported to ombudsman and accc who took my details and Sumo rectified the issue by calling me and aplogising (lol) because I'd already moved away to Tango before the new price took effect. I believe Sumo got fined or something for something similar around the same time.

Sumo Power founder Dominic Capomolla is also the CEO of Tango.

So I'm prepared for the worst haha!

@Skramit: They all do this. Commonly just called the "lazy tax".

Insurance, energy, etc. they all do it. It's not exactly against the law, but the recent reforms are trying to squeeze the practice out.

They don't get fined as such, but they do cop a "fee" for every ombudsman complaint received. They just say that to make people feel better unfortunately.

              • @Typical16-bitEnjoyer: Nah a price jack after 2 months of 70% isn’t the lazy tax. It’s a deliberate ploy to scam customers.

Lazy tax I associate with insurance mostly going up 10-20% each year unless you call and ask for a better price.

This sumo 70% jack is on a whole nother level of scam.

@Skramit: I hear you but all the major retailers did it as well. Some people would find their rates changing before their transfer had even completed. No longer the case. Illegal as of 2 months ago.

  • Tango: Sorry, we cannot proceed with your application
Sorry we currently do not have any electricity plans available for you. Please contact us via the below form, or call us on 1800 010 648 (Business hours).

What does this mean? I'll call them at 8.30 just someone might know, only thing I did that may cause a flag is I asked for hard copy mail instead of email (my partners request, I know, the worst)
