No VESA is really annoying… Good deal for those that don't care about that though

Got this last month. It it MASSIVE LOL.
My RX580 8GB has freesync but yet to tell the difference in gaming etc..
    No complaints from me.

    • You would be struggling to hit 60fps at 1440p, so the freesync should be helping somewhat if you are playing games at native resolution, which would not be exactly a great experience anyway. My Crossfired RX580 can be somewhat OK on medium/high settings where it is providing a reasonable boost. Minimum for 1440p is going to be RX 5700XT or RTX2070, but an RTX2080 is the ideal starting point to see the graphics you pay for.

Had one of these and was decent for the price. Just upgraded to the Predator X34P.

Only issues I had with this was the no vesa mounting holes (I bought an adapter on Amazon for $40 which provided that functionality) and it takes a while to power on each time from standby. Other than that pretty decent for the price!

  • Good basic gaming monitor. Only gripes are slow wake up time (sometimes up to 10s) and no Vesa mounting (less of an issue)

    • thanks for mentioning wake up time, that kills it for me. :)

      • i think that only affects VA model

    • you sure yours ain't the VA model ?

    • +1

I got the ISP version and its pretty fast

      • But what about the IPS version?

  • I've got this and think it's great - just the dodgy lack of VESA is a bother

  • -4

    Resolution not good

    • +1

      Why not?

  • Will nvidia gpu work with freesync? Looking to get a 1660 ti

  • It's not ultra-wide? Damm really want something UW for music production.

    Great price tho

    • +1

Cheapest ultrawide (1440p) would be between the Samsung one (75hz) and the kogan one (100hz). They both sit around $500 - $600.

Kogan's better if they're the same price.

Great monitor. Mine has been really solid for the price and performs well.

    • You missed the "20% off with the code POSTIE" that bring the AOC down to the stated $276. Your link doesn't offer that discount.

      • +1

I just bought it for 263 with the code. Am I missing something?

      • +2

Can confirm POSTIE works with gimme's link so definitely a better deal

    • -1

Better deal (above), the current one is not a bargain

      • +1

No, different model. One i posted is the replacement for the one he has posted.

So its the opposite. Save 13 bucks to get an outdated one? sure go ahead.

        • The older model is VA. That's the only difference tmk.

Just down to preference (VA vs IPS).

          • @N1NJ4W4RR10R: Uhh it's not 'preference', ips is superior in almost every way to VA. I'm also pretty sure that the old VA model was notorious for ghosting.

            • +1

@Ostrk: VA has far superior contrast (tmk). Ghosting isn't an issue on most model pannels as well (again, tmk)

I'd still go for an IPS pannel over it - the better colours are nicer then better blacks - but others may prefer the contrast

    • +2

The model in this is the Q3279VWF, although the title says IPS, nowhere else in the item description mentions IPS (just VA panel) which indicates this is the OLDER non-IPS model.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I was able to find on Google.

      • Colour Silver
        Product Line Q32 Series
        Panel IPS Panel

      • That's correct, guys go for the model with D8 at the end if you want the updated IPS panel.

      • It does specify Q3279VWFD8/75 in the description. Although it uses marketing material from the older VA model, It would be pretty easy to dispute if you got the older model.

      • I just checked with the seller and they said it's the D8 model. Their description is outdated. I also saw another listing for 263 with discount that specifies D8.

    • thats a different model.

    • In the description it says for causal gaming in your link.

OP link says serious gaming in the description.

      • That's just marketing fluff but the real differences can be seen in the link above

        • +1

          Yea that's fair enough.

          Anyway just read.
          IPS for creative.
          VA for gaming.
          TN for competitive gaming.

      • 75HZ isn't serious gaming, though you need a serious level graphics card for 1440p to be a great experience.

  • Is it worth getting a 1660 ti or rtx 206 for this monitor? Or should I be looking at the AMD equivalent because of freesync? Also, what's the AMD equivalent?

    • FX 5700XT or RTX2070 at least, and you will be dropping graphics settings for most games.

  • Will this work with GTX1080 and what should I be running it with the DP or the HDMI cable?

    • +1

Should be OK and I am pretty sure nvidia enabled freesync compatibility for that generation as well as the latest cards.

    • +1

At least you get VESA if that means anything to you

      • +2

I've got the Viewsonic. Haven't used it for gaming but use it all day at work and can't fault it.

    • The Viewsonic doesn't mention Freesync anywhere and appears to only be a 60Hz monitor.
