  • Do you need different amps depending on the type of guitar?

My son is looking at getting a Gilman GA12CE electric acoustic guitar and I'm wondering if this amp would be suitable?

This would be suitable. I have this amp and play an acoustic and electric acoustic through it.

      • Awesome, thanks

This little amp would be fine with the Gilman. It has a microphone input also so if he wanted to sing along it'd work ok too. I haven't heard one in person but the specs and features look broad enough to support a person wanting to play, looks useful too with the Bluetooth connect (Backing track from a phone). It seems to have Reverb only for effects so not great for Electric guitar if you want overdrive/distortion, that's where Roland Cube amps are probably better, or their equivalent.

      • Haha, I don't think he'd ever sing. At times I've sung along as he's played. Maybe I can get a microphone and really belt a few songs out. Didn't think of the back track idea with Bluetooth… was only thinking of the alternate use of playing music from a phone. He might look at getting an electric guitar in the future however he can probably pay for the thing himself if he goes down that track

      • The guitar and mic uses the same input. I don't think you can can sing and play guitar simultaneously without an additional mixer.

If it was a keyboard, then it might work with keyboard headphones out connected to the aux in. Can anyone confirm?

        • Yes that's correct. It's only one input. But having Bluetooth connection to play a backing track while playing is good.

There are a lot of different types of amps. An acoustic doesn't need an amp for practice; the electric part is often used with direct input to a soundboard. But it might be interesting to play around with an amp.

For busking, an amp with a battery might be better. For inside the house, this one seems nice if you don't already have a Bluetooth speaker, since it's multipurpose.

I think he'd enjoy playing around with an amp, and this is a reasonable price. He doesn't have a Bluetooth speaker for hooking up with his phone, etc, so it seems that this would be good

I really appreciate the comments and PM's. Very helpful bunch of ozbargeners.

After all that, I tried to buy one. Not available for delivery, no stock within 800km of me. Joys of living in the sticks.
