Electric Food Steamer

I love steamed food: it's fresh, clean and easy. Have done it over the stove-top and also using our electric fry-pan.

Then stumbled upon this on Myer website : Cuisinart Cookfresh Digital Glass Steamer. https://www.myer.com.au/p/cook-fresh-digital-glass-steamer--…
Read some reviews from the manufacturer and the negative ones are a bit confusing… https://www.cuisinart.com/shopping/appliances/specialty_appl….

I like it because it is one straight-forward big glass, instead of other brands with 2 compartments. Also love glass instead of plastic.

Before I rush out to Myer, just like to ask this knowledgeable community whether you have other ideas. Thanks!

That's a lot of money for something you can currently do on your existing cooktop.

    • Sort of agree.
But I find I am using my "budget" steaming appliances more than ever.
And they dont look that nice on my cooktip :-)

  • It's pretty much the same as the electric fry pan (but see through). Save your money.

I steam foods with a rice cooker + steamer basket.

    • Eh, the link takes me to a multicooker….
      Can you please re-send?
      Thanks!

Multicooker is the fancy name for a rice cooker that comes with a steamer basket. It works well enough to steam vegies, dim sums, dumplings, chicken. I like using it as it can cook rice at the same time. I am trying to cut down on single purpose appliances.

        • Ok got it. I have a Toshiba with a steamer, really love it for steaming veges and steamed buns.
But I need one that steams fish and chicken, where I want to retain the juice…..
          Will keep looking :-)
