Return 1 (of 3 Pack) USB Flash Drive

Hi Guys,
My first forum post, please move this to a better location if it doesn’t belong here. Thanks :)

I bought a three pack Verbatim Flash drive from Officeworks in January and one of them is faulty. Went to Officeworks today with faulty one and they told that they cannot do anything since the product is incomplete. I can see their logic but I honestly think I have lost one of the three, so I can’t return one of them, although it is obviously faulty!

Thank for any contributions :)

I’m actually pissed off that they wouldn’t let me buy bread by the slice at the supermarket. So I feel your pain.

    • You think you're pissed? I had a slice that was off-colour and they wouldn't replace it! I even took it back to show'em!

If they’ve still got the product on sale they should have opened one, given you the new one and sent the old back to depot (previous OW employee many moons ago)

Was it a manager you spoke to?

    • This is what I would've expected but is the $6 really worth your time and effort? Flash drives are consumables. If it really bothers you buy another pack, put the faulty one and 2 from the new pack together and return them on the original receipt. You'll then have 5 working drives.

    • Just the girl at the reception. Guess they could have used one of the new ones and done the switcheroo.
But what if it was something expensive? Like one camera of a security system, which came as a pack? I think there should be a method.

There is a method. It's called returning the whole product as you bought it.

Do they have the 3 packs still on the shelf?

If so, then all they need to do is take one of those 3 packs, open it and give you a new single flash drive, you give the dud one back. Problem solved. You get a new drive, they get a '3 pack' to send back for warranty.

    • :D Should do this. Thanks :)
But this made me think if it was something expensive and complex. Just like I told @k-rokfm above, one camera of a security system, which came as a pack? Or

I think there should be a fair method since replacing one of a pack seems straight forward :?

Nope. It’s sold as a pack so it all goes back. You don’t return one manufacturer defective shoe or speaker or walkie talkie and keep the other.

As Hybroid said, its sold as a 'pack' and needs to be returned as a pack. Which is why you do my method above.

Its like returning a dead fitbit, they want the charger etc to go back as well and give you a new one in return.

It would seem that the simple solution is to buy a 3 pack, take one of the working drives and put the non-working drive in the 3 pack and get a refund?

  • Thanks all for your the feedback :)
