As far as I'm aware this is the only MESH system that runs on OpenWRT and yet still runs the underlying technology of all the other available MESH systems - Qualcomm WiFi SON. Because it's OpenWRT based you can play with the firmware using the OpenWRT repository to customise your install (OpenVPN/Wireguard, Adblock, MWan3, Transmission ). You can run either Gl.iNet's firmware, clean OpenWRT or Rooter however I believe that you'll get the best performance from Gl.iNet's own firmware because of the vendor network drivers compared to open source ones (and I'm not sure what happens with MESH if you don't use the Gl.iNet firmware probably have to install B.A.T.M.A.N ).
Has the same web based GUI as all their other products (with access to native Luci) and for remote management they also have a web based management platform; Goodcloud which even allows you to create a remote site SDN quite easily
